Hi all,

Search function not returning the existing team name. I can confirm the team exist through o365.

Do you know what is the issue?

Is it a private team? Those won’t get found during a search from teams

Hi Adam,

Yes, it’s a private team. Is there any other way to give control to champions (team creator group /team owners) to search for private team apart from O365 admin centre because champions will be end-users. As part of checkpoint I want them to search for existing team before creating any team to avoid duplication of the team.

What’s your recommendation for creating a private or public team? On what basis you classify them?

Many thanks for your help on this.

There’s no way of searching private teams I. Teams unfortunately, there was a roll out of this but it was cancelled due to many complaints..you have a private team if you don’t want anyone to have access to files I. Sharepoint and be able to join the team on their own

I am planning to give control to champions (end-users) for team creation.

What is the best way you suggest for champions to. check the existing team name in above scenario?

Many thanks!

Not sure this is possible out-of-the-box.

The users will not be able to search for private teams, in addition they will be able to create new teams with duplicate names (although the groupID/email will be different). This is by design so users do not accidentally discover existing private teams (e.g. "Redundancies")

You could consider a custom team request process that verifies the name, or alternatively a regular script that monitors for duplicate team names. However, either way it feels like going against the use cases for private teams.

On the basis that duplicate teams are an inevitability in most environments, implementing group expiry policies or regular house keeping/usage reporting might assist in managing the environment and educating users?
