Scheduling Meetings in Private Channels

Hi,

Can anyone confirm this this works, or indeed doesn't? I can't seem to schedule meetings into Private Channels, but can't find if this should actually work.

@ChrisHoardMVP I have noticed that the meeting schedule is now available in Private Channels which is new, but when you come to use it unfortunately it errors...any updates/advice.  Thanks

@Sarahcampion Unfortunately when you use the Schedule Meeting from inside a Private channel that Channel is still not able to be added. It is a bit deceiving and i did get excited when i saw that.

The function exists -- I can select Schedule a Meeting -- but then nothing appears in the 'Add channel' entry for the New Meeting pop-up.  When i Schedule a Meeting in a public channel, the channel's name is auto-populated in the 'Add channel' entry for the New Meeting. Seems MS still has a bug or two to remove to make this (that is, scheduling a meeting in a private channel) truly do-able.

@NaguiBihelek @Sarahcampion An update -- today I wanted to schedule a meeting in a private channel... and the option to do so in Teams is gone.  Now I can only start a meeting immediately, vice schedule one in the future. @Christopher Hoard, can you provide any insights into what's happening here?  Thanks!

This is such an obvious and critical functionality that I really cannot understand why it is not implemented. In my University we have integrated Teams with our information system in such a way that we have one Team per course (we have more the 6 thousand courses each year) and then have private channels within each Team for each class. A course can have multiples classes each one with different students and different schedules...

Not to be able to schedule meetings (classes)  in a practical manner, within a private channel, is a really serious setback that can jeopardize our adoption of Teams until this issue is solved.

Of incredible value for both education and support staff. Please prioritize this feature! Even if it is not possible to switch between private and public settings for the meeting: just being able to create a meeting with private channel is a much needed feature. 

MS Teams, help us out here!

I still surprised what made them to drop a normal functionality that works for a Team Channel and under what reason they must have restricted this option for Private channels? Do private channel members will not meet in advance? How do they assume all private channel meetings are all instant meetings? Do not assume something on behalf of People and restrict a normal functionality that works well in normal circumstances.

@ChinCharmin thank you, it works.  However, the team members in the private channel can't find the meeting in their teams calendar.

@glennhurlowZA Yes, that will work as long as the admin hasn't disabled the "Allow users to send emails to a channel email address" in Teams Admin Center, then the "Get email address" won't be there.

You could also start a Meet in the private channel, get the join link, close the meeting, copy and paste the join link into a meeting invitation (either in Teams or Outlook), if using the former you'll need to adjust the automatically created Teams link.

This thread will give you some good workarounds including ad-hoc and email but we all need to see a native solution. This has gone on way too long.

This really is a big con. In a year I hoped they have fixed this but it is still not possible to create a meeting within a private channel. Which makes it hard to actually communicate within this channel so I see no pros in using private channels.

This is such a gap, gets in the way of fully integrating with Teams.
This along with several other gaps in channels (public/private) and URL links for private channels
Please make private channels fully functional with all channel features.
