We noticed an oddity today -- my company is just starting its transition to Teams. A few hundred people have UpgradeToTeams as their TeamsUpgradeEffectiveMode; the other ten thousand people (and the tenant) is Islands. When someone from Skype sends a chat message to me, they appear in my recent conversation history with a little Skype logo -- that's the only way I've got to initiate a conversation to them in Skype, so I want to save it. But when I click the ellipsis on their entry and select "Add to favorite contacts" ... their *Teams* persona is added to my favorite contacts. If I pin the recent conversation, their Skype persona which is pinned; but pinning a few dozen Skype users means I've got to scroll down to find my actual recent conversations.
Has anyone found a way to add an Island user's Skype persona to their Teams favorite contacts?
Not possible since they are two in the same as far as user goes in Azure AD. Island mode is going to accept all new messages from Teams to Teams no matter what since there is no coexistence when it comes to Islands. Your only option for that is to set those users using skype over to Skype Only.
