We have an executive direction to roll out teams for the enterprise just for basic chat using IM and audio / video capabilities. My questions:
1) has any one rolled out Teams just for above.
2) Teams also serves as a gateway to too many features /capabilities. (SharePoint, OneDrive, Exchange, Video, Planner, etc...) Is there a way to control enabling these features at a tenant level? Which features can be controlled and which cannot be controlled?
3) As a next step is there a way to open up these services through the use of scripts to specific users? Controlling access through the admin interface for a large organization with adhoc requests may be painful.
4) What approach have companies taken to establish governance and support structure around the supporting features of Teams?
Appreciate any direction, pointers to documentation and clarity that can be shed on these...
I’ve had customers use it primary for this purpose but not restricted it like you said
Like you said teams includes a lot of other services! These are controlled in different ways! All files management is dependent on sharepoint! This can not be turned of from teams but it can be disabled for users license wise! The experience isn’t great though because the files tab is still there so users can be confused, and people can’t share files in chat! Same goes for other services! By removing license you can restrict their use!
With all this said, I really don’t recommend stripping if all this features! Teams loses much of its functionality and strength as a collaboration tool! It might be better to inform users of how they should use it, in what purposes, and what content that teams is for!
Hi! You can create policy’s in the teams and Skype admin center! It’s more teams specific settings but there’s a few options to turn on/off if you want! Also you can set app/cloud storage restrictions etc
You can also have some control by removing licenses for Office365 services you don’t want users to run in Teams! Don’t recommend doing this though!
Is it anything specific you want to restrict?? And why?
Regarding governance there is this governance documentation about the whole office 365 groups ecosystem:
