I wanted to clean a channel of a team and deleted that channel. Now I am not able to recreate a channel with the same same. It always tell me, that a channel with this name already exists. What can I do?

That was a misstep by me - missed the restore step!
Thank you for the guidance. Done and worked perfectly.

@Matthew Procter thanks man, that fixed it for me.
Still think MS should fix this. They should ignore deleted channels and maybe just put out a notification like "This name is associated with a delete channel, are you sure you want to use this name again?" And if a deleted with Channel with the same name then is attempted to be restored it should warn the user that the name has been recycled.

@John Beharry I'm not able to restore the deleted channel. It just says "We couldn't restore the **** channel. Try restoring it again."

@Kristian Buchholtz I had deleted the channel so I first restored it, then renamed it by adding '-old' to the channel name, deleted it and recreated the channel with the original name and with the Privacy /Public attribute I want.
It's clumsy but that's what it is at the moment and until Microsoft develop a solution for a better user experience.

@Nosferican I hope you found the solution. It took me a while to find it.
1. Select Team -> Manage Team -> Channels (tab)
2. Click on '...' on the right of the Channel you wish to rename
3. select 'Edit this channel' and enter a different name that you'll never need again.
then you can delete the channel again and create the new one.

I had same issue, after restoring the menu on the channel was limited. I restarted teams and was able to see the option to edit channel once again

According to the Teams documentation, you can create a max of 200 channels "including current and deleted channels". I interpret this as channels never really go away. They just get moved into your 'deleted' space and count toward your quota. You are better off recycling old channels. Unfortunately when you recycle you get all the posts and everything else associated with the channel. You might need to do a bunch of cleanup to recycle.
Here's how I reuse a channel name:
