It’s always fun to speculate on the future, as long as that’s all it is. I wondered whether it was possible to look at the newly released Session Catalog for Microsoft Ignite 2018, and see if the sessions which have been chosen indicate anything we didn’t already know about Skype for Business and Teams.
All the information below is taken from the Session Catalog and was correct as of 12th August 2018. It’s worth noting though that the Catalog is likely to change and evolve leading up to the start of the conference.
There are currently 629 sessions in total at Ignite this year.
There are 6 sessions with the word ‘Skype’ in the title.
There are 40 sessions with the word ‘Teams’ in the title. (note though, that Teams is an overloaded word)
Let’s look in detail at those Skype sessions:

quick question, When can we 'sign up' for Ignite sessions?

No John, it's first come, first served. In general they get it about right by putting the most popular sessions in the biggest rooms, but sometimes there can be sessions that become full.
Last time I went in 2016 there was an alternative area you could go and watch all the live presentations in a huge screen, tuning into the audio of the session you were watching.
All sessions are recorded, and within a few days are available on YouTube.

Just a note. The "session builder" will go live soon and you can build out your Microsoft Ignite schedule. That helps the team know how to size the rooms/sessions as @Steven Collier mentioned, but it is first come first serve for each session. We have overflow, hangout areas, all sorts of places to try to help you not miss content. All of the content will land right here on the Tech Community / YouTube as we go through the conference.
