We have a problem with chat messages initiated from Teams (user with Teams Only mode) to Skype for business (user with Skype for Business mode) not being received in SfB. Calling and video is working. The receiver gets an email a few minutes later that a message was sent to her in Teams. The user has never used Teams and has no license. Sending from SfB to Teams for the same user is working. The Org-wide setting is Island mode with some users having set user settings (Only mode).
Has anyone experienced something similar?

I did update the policies for an user through Powershell to SfBOnly. Even when I initiate the chat from that user in Skype when receiving the message in Teams it states that the user is available in Teams and suggest to start a Teams chat instead.

If we change from Island to Skype for Business only in org-wide settings will the users who have no Teams license and have never used Teams notice any difference? For the few that have used Teams we plan to set Island mode per-user first, communicate the change and then change to Teams only mode.

Do you guys have any experience in having SfBOnly mode as org-wide setting and Island mode for those trying out Teams? We currently have set those users to TeamsOnly but get a lot of feedback that it is to many drawbacks in using TeamsOnly since most users are still only in Skype. If we would change to Island mode for the test users, would we still get the same issues as we had when we had org-wide setting set to Island mode?

I would be interested to hear what you and your users say about 'SfB Only' mode. Please do share your results. We have not tried 'SfB Only' mode. MS automatically put our org wide setting to 'Islands' and we have left it alone. We have several pilots and they remain in 'Islands' mode with strict instructions to only use Teams with others in their pilot [use Skype for everything else, as before] I put myself in 'Teams Only' mode and, as i commented earlier, i see misleading info about 'Johnny has switched to Teams' and also the irritating Teams marketing mails ('You're missing out! Switch to Teams') that MS is generating. Teams only is working well for me. I just tell others to send the Skype invite, since all i can create is a Teams meeting (note to MS: my Outlook client still shows the Skype add-in even though I am Teams Only!)
