Private chat within a channel

Hi is there a way to have a private chat with one team member within a channel.  I am told this is possible within slack.  The idea is to keep the conversation more organized based on the topic/channel without have the other team members being able to have access it.

To me it's just a point around navigation. They have the ability to create a persistent private named chat, it's just people would like that to appear in the list of teams and channels rather than in the chat section. I'm not sure I see the functional difference.

I think for the Team product group the problem looks hard, as if it was really a channel they would need to have permissions across all the other group services, sharepoint, onenote, planner etc. Chat doesn;t have these options, so it simpler.

If I'm not mistaken, that suggestion is about getting the ability to create a private channel, not for having private chats in the context of an existing channel, check if there's a similar suggestion on Uservoice or post a new suggestion. I like the idea of having private chats with someone in a team/channel context, and with the chat history being recorded there instead of in the separate private chat tab. So if I wanted to discuss something with my manager, I could do it in a relevant channel, without the discussion being available to everyone in that channel. Same thing with a call or skype meeting I suppose.

There is currently no functionality that does that.

Best to have private chat using the Chat tab or instant messing via @persons name in the search bar to begin the conversation.

I'm not quite sure why someone needs to have private conversations in a channel when chat is for that purpose and gives you far more control to share files and have audio/video chats?

Is there any update on this?

The reason I would like to see private chat within a channel is because our organization setup a retention policy that automatically deletes private chats after two weeks, but does not affect chats within channels.  Since there's no way to save conversations in Teams either, having a chat in the channel will ensure it isn't lost forever.
