Planner won't load in Teams

Hi all,

 

So the issue we are running into is that the planner tab in any of my channels will not load at all in Microsoft Teams.  At first, my boss was the only one who had this issue.  The tab will only show a blank screen.

 

My laptop just installed updates, and now I am running into the same issue.  The icon with the silhouette of two people does not show up at all.  Any suggestions on how to fix?  We've been using planner heavily in teams to help coordinate projects and it's a productivity loss for this issue to occur.

got the same issue, but it doesn't seem to affect all our teams clients all the time.  Also it only affects the Teams Desktop app, the web teams app works fine.

Yes, it also only affects our Teams desktop app, but not the web browser.   Doesn't solve the issue though.  It's only an alternative.  There are times when we may not have internet access, so the web app is essentially useless.

Try the developer preview Teams version, that resolved the issues most of the time for our Desktop teams apps.  The option is on your profile button in the bottom left corner of the Teams Desktop app incase you didnt already know about that option, then its under about context menu.  Select Developer preview so its ticked and it will then relaunch the Teams app using the Dev preview version.  It just comes down to whether you are OK with running a beta build effectively.  Personally I always run insider builds or betas, for me the new features makes up for any instability.  Its worth a go to at least see if this workaround works for you.

Temporary workaround we do right now is to logout from the MS Team desktop app by clicking your profile pic/icon and selecting "log out".  The app will relaunch itself and prompt you for your credentials.  It works every time but is still not the permanent fix.

I have the same issue; Planner does not show in desktop app but is visible in Browser and on phone.

Did you click on "sign out" from your profile picture?  (not just closing the desktop app by clicking the X button)  Because it is still happening to us and signing out and back in fixes it all the time.

I did some investigations and it turned out that I had the 64-bit version of office. After uninstalling and reverting to a 32-bit version of office, I now see the planner!

Glad you found the cause for you.  We are using 64-bit for Office and MS Team is 64-bit as well and it still works.

Ouch! And then it stopped working again. So the 64/32 bit change was not the solution!

Remember: you're on a SkyDrive platform in Ofc365 which means authentication security will make sure you are who you say you are.  It seems a negative feature, but the door swings both ways: it protects your data from unauthorized access, too.  Try opening a different TAB in the same Browser and 'Log-in' to your OneDrive. Once it know you are authorized to see the files, it should also allow you to see special (i.e.: Planner) feature data as well.

Another thing to remember is -it's Ofc365; if you want full-featured TEAMS, you'll have to install the Desktop App (same with any Ofc365 -vs- Desktop app).

Hi Thomas, I would try uninstalling your MS Teams app and reinstalling it again.  If your computer is a 64-bit machine, make sure you install the 64-bit version of Office and MS Teams.  You may need to uninstall Office too if you currently have 32-bit.  Planner will still not load from time to time for us but signing out then signing back in ALWAYS fixes it.

Yeah - the same issues is with OneNote. 

 

After having installed / uninstalled and switched between 32 and 64 bit numerous times, I am now exclusively using the browser version. I will revisit the Team App after a few updates.

Same issue for me. OneNote an Planner tabs don't load in the client app and work fine in web.

It works fine for my colleague who connect on same tenant but he has only 1 account Office 365. 

Me I've several. I don't know if it can be the issue....

 

I think it's a security issue with my differents accounts... In a browser the token is for the browser session...

In the client App, I don't know ....

My Teams version is 1.1.00.2251. It is 64 bit.

My OS is 64 bit.

My company only (of unknown reasons) support 32 bit office.

 

Is this issue being investigated by someone, or is it just a known issue?

I have the same issue. Shows in web but not in app (when selecting the tab, theres just an empty pane with the background color)

 

- Tried 32-bit and 64-bit (my OS is x64, Teams Version 1.1.00.2251) 

- Tried loggin in and out of the application, and a reboot

- Doesnt have the option of "developer preview" in the about-menu

 

Could this be escalated or reported in some other way? Whats the correct channel nowadays?

My issue has been fixed.

Uninstall Teams.

Reboot

Install teams again.

 

Same version 1.1.00.2251 before and after.

 

It solved the issue. Allow Teams a few seconds to load the "Planner" addin

I am having the same issues. I tried to sign out add the aforementioned trusted sites, logged back in and it is just a black screen. 1.1.00.19257 (64 bit). We just keep launching the website version to make and view tasks. Any other suggestions?

Quick update, I was poking around and this is also what it does for my other tabs like onenote, powerpoint presentation, word doc. Seems to be most things that are just disaplaying a website of some sort.

This was working yesterday...Ugh.  Stopped working today and found this thread.  Planner works in browser (going to planner directly) and works in the web version of teams (loads planner in the teams site) but does NOT work in the desktop version of Teams any longer.  Onenote loads within that team site (so not a credentials issue)...but no planner.

 

Checked and confirmed using the most recent update/version.

We are having this issue using version 1.1.00.29068 (64 bit). This is currently stopping us from moving 0365 from Test to Live at our company. Any ideas on when there will be a fix?

Working with a few coworkers we found that if we copy over a blank settings.json file to "%APPDATA%\Microsoft\Teams\settings.json" and set it to read only it forces it to recreate every time and we no longer have issues with our tabs to load. it is definitely a hack, but gets the job done for now.

Same issue here for Planner, OneNote, SharePoint tabs using latest Microsoft Teams app version 1.2.00.4664 (64-bit). This issue has been around quite some time now and preventing us rolling out Teams app. We just tell users to use Chrome Browser only (lots of issues in IE11) ...not great!
