After installing Teams desktop client, Outlook 2016 crashes when selecting folder (like Sent Items, etc.) The Office 2016 was installed a couple of days prior on fresh Windows 10 laptop. Disabling the Teams Meeting add-in within Outlook fixes crash, re-enabling add-in results in crash. Anyone else seeing this or have resolution? Thanks.

Yes, we are discovering exactly the same symptom.  Exactly the same resolution.

Hi Mark,

I'm using the below version withou any problem.

Office 365 Proplus
Version 1709 (Build 8528.2139 Click-to-Run)
Monthly Channel (Targeted)

With the Outlook version (16.0.8528.2126) 32 bits

Is it possible to install this latest version to see if the problem presists ?

Nuno-

I've updated as requested - still encountering issue. I'm using the 64-bit version, however.

@Marc Miller

It looks like you are using Office Professional Plus, not ProPlus.

I am not sure that the Teams add-in works with the packetized version of Office 2016...

@Nuno SilvaDo you know if it works?

Highlighted

Microsoft Teams was developed to cloud solution like Office 365 Proplus, and at this moment should work at Office 365 ProPlus. That could be the issue.

Highlighted

Hi Marc,

Can you test with 32-bit version ?

Highlighted
Yes, we have seen the same with one user so far in our organisation. Therefore it doesn't seem to be a consistent problem, as there are many who don't have the problem. We are running a mix of 32/64 bit predominantly Win7 but also Win10 and Office 365 Pro Plus version 1705

My outlook 2016 also crashed, I read this article and disabled MSFT Teams add-in. When I restarted outlook, I was able to click through the folders without any crash. It seems like that the MSFT Teams add in has some bugs or crashes in combination with other add ins. Not sure yet but seems like I need to file a ticket with MSFT, as I need the teams extension in order to create meetings;)

I have seen the same issue. Clicking the "Inbox" folder... but ONLY on my work account o365/Exchange account crashes Outlook. If I select any other folder, it does not crash; or does it crash with any other account configured... (POP/IMAP, Hotmail, GMail, Yahoo, or personal o365/Exchange account).  If I disable the COM Add-In, all is well again -- I do NOT have to restart Outlook for it to take effect.

And if I run Teams again, it automatically re-enables the add-in, and issue.

I'm also experiencing the Outlook crashing issue when certain folders are selected. Disabling the Teams Add-On in Outlook stopped the crashes for me.

I'm running Microsoft Office 365 ProPlus on Win 10 64-bit. Outlook version is 1808 (Build 10730.20102) on Semi-annual channel.

Hopefully the Teams team can find and fix the crashes caused when the Teams Add-On is enabled.

In lieu of an official statement, the Microsoft Teams team has identified the cause of the crashes and have fixed the bug. It is in initial deployment testing and should be released to the general public in the next 2-6 weeks.

I was able to report this issue through my employer's Microsoft support channels and this is the information Microsoft has provided back to me through the support ticket.

So, obviously the previous updates were not tested by MS properly. Hope the next updates will fix the problems users facing currently.

Thank you for the update.

Yeah, they probably will! There is always ups and downs with releasing new stuff and updates on a regular basis..

To be fair, there may be multiple causes of this issue and previous updates addressed the known cause(s) at the time. I had not thought of this when posting my original comment.

That said, though, it is unfortunate that these issues were not caught in testing and I hope this upcoming update will fix it once and for all.

Hi there ! Exactly my problem too, same crash, same reason. Just fixed it today by de-installing the Teams add-in, which is a pity as I wanted to intensively use Teams from now on, especially also the webco functionalities. Please fix this issues asap.. My Outlook version is 2016, screen shot attached. BR from Germany Tim

Hello,

I still have the same issue.

I'm using Outlook profesionnal plus 2016

Version 1901 (build 11231.20130)

Outlook crash every time I click on "inbox" folder from a shared mailbox. the only way I found to fix the issue is to disabled the teams meeting addin in outlook.

is there a new fix for this bug ?

Exactly the same problem and fix ..not sure why it takes so long to fix something like this!

I'm having the same issue with a laptop. And I have another one that Outlook loads, but when the user try to access the Sent folder it crashes.

Use run command and type "outlook.exe /cleanviews"

I started having this problem a month ago.  I noticed one important Outlook sub-folder that when I clicked it,  Outlook restarted.  The entire data file was fine,  just one of the folders in the data file.  Then yesterday,  I found two more in a different data file.  I tried repairing, reinstalling Office 365.  Did not fix.  I tried to repair each of the .PST Data Files.  Did not fix.  Then I found this thread.  I just removed the Microsoft Teams Add-in and now I have access to those data files again.  Microsoft has ruined Onenote for me,  with their improvements,  They ruined Business Contacts Manager for me,  a product which I loved and relied on for my business,  now they are trying to ruin Outlook.  Thank you to everyone on this thread for doing what Microsoft cannot do,  stat out of their own way of ruining their own products.  @Marc Miller

LIkewise still crashing daily.

If it helps pin things down I have access to a shared mailbox as well as my own.

Latest 365 and latest Teams.

Disabling add-in now.

@VijayRathod This worked - "outlook.exe /cleanviews"

The /cleanviews trick DOES work, but it's not perm. as the issue came back eventually, unless you use it as your full-time launch. In my case, I ultimately installed and ran Microsoft Support and Recovery Assistant for Office 365, which wiped the bits, and I followed with a clean install. There were a couple minor glitches I had to manually fix with Outlook in areas I did a lot of manually tinkering, but otherwise, 98% of things came back fine, and I have not see the issue with Teams Outlook since.

I am working with Office 365 Pro Plus, Version 1902, Build 11328.20222 32 bit and I have exactly the same problem. Outlook crahses everytime I change Folders. Open Folders in new window works.
Disabeling the Teams Add In resolves the problem. Enabling it again, Outlook continue to crash...

Hello@James Olsen

Could you please tell me if the fix was released?

Thanks

@mpellizzon Yes, the fix they released did fix it for me. Unfortunately, since some people are still encountering the issue, it seems like there are other causes of the same error that still need to be fixed.

Hi james,

thanks for replying! Would you mind tell me where I find the fix reported? I tried in many sources inside the community without success.

Thanks for your time!

@mpellizzon I do not know where you can check that status directly. My issue was ultimately handled via my company's corporate tech support working with Microsoft's enterprise tech support. All I know is I sent them logs and other how-to-recreate info and after some time they (Microsoft) said they found the issue and would push a bug fix out in a few weeks. Eventually, I got the updated code and my instance of problem went away. Unfortunately, that's all the information I have. I don't have any KB articles or anything I can provide.

I just started having a similar issue yesterday, outlook 2016 crashing on start-up, after trying the usual fixes without luck, I found this thread and disabling the Teams com add-in has fixed the issue.

Getting the exact same behaviour - Outlook (Office Professional Plus 2016) crashes when accessing Sent folder for me, all other folders fine.

Disable Team addin and all works OK.

Outlook issues: there are situations when Outlook crash while opening particular folders even after cache deletion or version change. You should try the fix below: run CMD as admin (Outlook closed) and depending the version (32bits -Program files x86 or 64bits - Program Files)
"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\root\Office16\OUTLOOK.EXE" /cleanviews
