Microsoft TEAMs installed itself with Office 365 onto our users' workstation even though our users are not licensed to get it, why? We have not coded our installation package to get TEAMs... not yet. This just started 3 weeks ago when the newest version of MS Office 365 got updated to our First Deferred users.

Our users are complaining because the TEAMS sign-in page keeps popping to sign in and we have not licensed them so they can't sign in.

Can someone explain why we are getting this?

Because Teams is now part of the default office 365 package..

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/deployoffice/teams-install

If you want to exclude teams from future installs you need to customize the configuration xml file!
See link!

Thanks. Shouldn't Microsoft at least give enterprise customers some kind of warning before releasing TEAMs to our users? We need to test in our test environment first before placing them in our CDNs to update our users. @adam deltinger

Wasnt there a notice in your Office 365 message center?

@stcxiong

I would recommend you reach out to Microsoft Support and have them help you restrict who can create Teams.  It requires Powershell code, but it allows you to have a Team-Admin SharePoint permission group, that restricts who can create Teams groups and channels.  Native growth of Teams is AWFUL to try and manage.

Thanks. Would changing a user's E1 license to E4 without first disabling TEAMs in E1 may have contributed to the auto installation of TEAMs to the users' workstation? Just curious. @MartyGoldstein
