Newbie Teach Teams

Brass Contributor

I am new to Microsoft 365. A few weeks ago I started studying for MS-900, Microsoft 365 Fundamentals. I opened my mouth today at work and now I have an assignment. I look forward to it, but I am not sure how to get started. I work for a large school district. For the past 18 months, we have totally embraced G Suite. My boss told us today that down the road the district plans on using Office 365 as well. I emailed him back and told him what test I am preparing for and what a coincidence it is that we are moving toward Office 365. He says to me, "When you are ready, at one of our Tech Support team meetings, I will give you 20 minutes and I want you to teach an advanced feature of 365."  We are a team of about 30 Technology Support Technicians that support various schools in our cluster. My first thought was Teams since he created a Team today and added all of his techs.  I do not know where to start. I would appreciate any guidance. Thanks.

Hi @johnleejones

First off here is my exam prep guide for MS-900

https://microsoft365pro.co.uk/2019/01/25/microsoft-365-fundamentals-ms-900-exam-prep-guide/

A combination of this, plus the MS Learn Course (https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/learn/paths/m365-fundamentals/) should put you in a strong position if you have a few weeks to go through them.  If you have access to a Microsoft 365 Trial for 30 days that will help too.

I have some Teams posts on this blog including subjects such as locking down who can create Teams, installing connectors to bring in Twitter and Yammer Posts, how to setup video and how to create sets of Links for users. With Teams for education you may also want to look into subjects like managing assignments, understanding School Data Sync (SDS), integrating it with an LMS app or an education app such as Flipgrid or being able to use Teams Powershell.

This site: https://education.microsoft.com/ has tons of lessons on Office 365 for Education including the main EDU apps like Teams, Sway and OneNote. Again, this should give you some inspiration

Hope that helps and answers your question

Best, Chris

Hello @Christopher Hoard

I finished the MS Learn course last week and I am down to How Microsoft 365 Business can secure your Organisation in the study guide which has been a big help to me. Thank you very much for the tips. Right now I am leaning toward locking down who can create Teams or installing connectors. I will check out the education website for more ideas. Thank you so much for your help. I appreciate it.
