Need to grant permissions to make edits to a document

My team uses MS Teams to make multiple, tracked edits to a document before proceeding to new versions. This was very straightforward before, but a recent Teams update now means we have to grant permissions to review/edit a document very time we share - otherwise it just opens up in a view format and people have to save it and re-share each time they want to make edits.

Is there a way to revert back to how it was previously? It's very annoying having to make this change each time and considering our team works with senior leaders often, it can be a challenge to have them change this setting each time - people forget in their haste.

I don't think there is another way. This option was requested a lot previous because people were updating documents without intend.
