I believe I found a solution for this scenario. If you edit "$APPDATA%\Microsoft\Teams\desktop-config.json" and set preventUpnDetectSso to true it will prompt for credentials when switching tenants.

 

You do need to enter your creds once per tenant, which is a little annoying considering they should all use the same creds, but so far it looks like it remembers them between launches. So once you've gone through all of your guest tenants and entered your creds, switching between them is pretty smooth from there.

I have a work email that has been configured on my outlook, whereas, the email id used for my office 365 account is different, I don't know why my organisation did it, but, this is a problem while integrating outlook with Microsoft Teams and i need this badly and this is the only reason that we are not using Microsoft Teams in our organisation.

the only way it works for me is to sing into Team Office365 portal. Even when I signed in to the Desktop team, Outlook picks up the last logged account (for new Team meetings). 

It is annoying.

@Brian Mair I tried your solution, but it seems i require an exchange server in order to configure email, which i do not have in my organisation. My organisation emails are from 1and1.com, whereas my office 365 account has its own id. So not sure how to go ahead with this.

@Roberto FrancoI believe there must be a way to do this.  I am on a Teams TAP team and I am able to toggle back and forth between our tenant and Microsoft's using a drop down selection next to my profile photo in Teams.

We have teams for internal use and some of our customers invited us as guest to their teams.

I first logged into teams with our o365-account and could accept the guest invitation to the external team. Now I have the ability to chose between the two accounts without need type in login credentials each time.

Some colleagues started with the external teams account. When we now create new internal teams. those colleagues get invitation mails, but when clicking on the link, teams won't open the new workspace and stays with its guest account.

Yes, there seems to be some confusion about this requirement. For me, I have two separate O365 tenant accounts and I want to be able to toggle easily between the two in the desktop app, just like I can in the Android app. I don't have or need external or guest access from either of the accounts to the other.

When will this functionality become available in the desktop app please?

@Roberto Franco Asana also has a great approach to address this issue. First it allows you to merge all your accounts which are associated with different email addresses. At the same time it allows you to switch from organizations easily.

I have found the following to be super useful:

Merging feature:

- In my kind of work (consulting/freelance) I can be representing several clients and have email addresses with their domain names which used to create respective Teams accounts. For example, contoso@client1.com, contoso@client2.com, contoso@client3.com, and contoso@mydomain.com. By merging all other accounts created with each of the different email address, it becomes possible to access all of my accounts with any of the email addresses i have signup with.

Organization Switching feature:

- After accessing my (merged) account, regardless of which of the associated emails I used, I can easily switch from one organization to another by choosing from a readily available list (client 1, client 2, client 3, mydomain). While this list is readily reachable by going to your account avatar / profile picture in Asana, switching organization is even more readily accessible in Slack with the list conveniently located on the side of the screen.

 

I have not tried it but apparently the Franz 5 application provides an acceptable temporary workaround to login to multiple Teams accounts simultaneously.

 

It would be great if Teams would develop the necessary features to meet my needs described above (fingers crossed)

Team Owner needs to give you permissions (manage team - settings - Guest permissions) to add channels to the team you are guest in.
Guests can not create new teams. Guests can not also become team owners.

You can only log into the Teams with "one" account at a time only. You can't be logged into both at the same time. Each time you want to use, you must log out (and not just close the app), then log in as a different user. 

Same goes for the online MS O365 accounts.

@NashParrot I'm not sure when it was activated, but I can now see in the desktop app the drop down list of other tenants for which I have an O365 account. However, when I try and access another one, I just get the rotating circle. Access to this other tenant is available in the Android app and also in a browser, however I noticed the drop-down does not appear in the browser.

So i t looks like roll-out of this functionality has commenced, but is not yet finalised.

The issue remains that you do not receive notifications from the other organisation until you switch.

So you have to switch all the time to check.

A real ball-ache but certain that miscrosnot won't get back if they haven't done so for the duration of this thread.

Same here. Need login/logout regularly to see my messages, and i'm missing calls from time to time when i switch to another tenant. File sharing also becomes a nightmare.

Also a big compliance problem as there's no way to control which files are out on the other tenants. 

Rather surprising in the era of Whatsapp and co where i can chat with anyone...

@Izakvdm so terrible.  Microsoft wants you to think they are agile, same old waterfall as before.  Must be a lot of tech debt preventing this (relatively simple) functionality.

Keep voting for this! This is such a key feature and once we got an official response the votes stopped and is out ranked by dark mode and emojis. While those are nice, Teams is impossible to actually use with multiple customers.

I agree with everyone - it;s quite rediculous that this isn't a core feature. I am delegated Admin for multiple clients, who add me into their I.T. Department Teams, but the Desktop App doesn't have a tenancy switcher, and it still means I need to regulary switch to each tenancy in order to check if there are any new messages or conversations. And as for missing video calls, that's another story.
Another key element I am disturbed about is the inability to "remotely administer" Teams for my clients - I can select my clients tenant in the O365 Admin Portal (and also in Azure AD), and when clicking on the Exchange Admin portal icon, I can administer my cl;ients shared mailboxes - but clicking on the Teams Admin portal Icon just takes me to Teams in my own tenancy - I cannot Create, Delete or amend membership of any teams in my Clients tenancies. In the current climate of COVID-19, I have all my customers asking me to configure this for them, and I have to tell them that I am unable to do so because of Microsoft - it means a lot of remotely connecting to my clients, and using up their time and computers to manage their Teams.... crazy!

Yes, I have indeed logged a ticket with Microsoft, and their response so far was:

  "... this is by design.  There are limitations for security and compliance reasons."

As usual, I believe the first line support agent assigned to the case has probably not understood correctly, and I am currently awaiting a call back to discuss further.

 

On another note - I will make a correction to my earlier post - the Windows 10 Teams App does indeed have a "Tenancy Switcher" - but I had to manually download and install the latest version of the App again - I would have thought it would have automatically updated, just like the rest of Microsoft's suite - it happens often enough!
