hi,

 

I am going to implement direct routing but not clear on the O365 license required.  I want to streamline the licenses.

 

From here (https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoftteams/office-365-licensing), I would need one of the business or E plans.  Then add on phone system license.

 

My questions:

 

1.  Is SFBO license required for teams to work for direct routing?  If yes, please elaborate more for my understanding.

2.  If above (1) is yes, from the table here (https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/office-365-plan-options.aspx), there is a footnote 10 to 14, on different limitations of the SFBO plans.  What is the voice support and supplemental features?

My 2 cents here:
(1) No, you need the user have Teams license assigned...indeed licensing requirements are the following: Microsoft Phone System, Microsoft Teams, Microsoft Audio Conferencing. You can find this here: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoftteams/direct-routing-plan
(2) In regards of the licensing plan, you will need an E5 Plan that includes Phone System and Audio Conferencing or an E3 + those AddOns

It's rather an old document, the SfB Plan 2 really evolved to be called the Phone System license.

I hope they could use better names that wouldn't confuse people that phone system need SFBO license, and what does that got to do with Teams?

Does these apply to Teams?

No, Teams really helped clear up the complexity of Skype licensing.

 

  1. There is no licensing for the client, so no longer a link to Office licensing.
  2. There are 4 license types
    1. Free
    2. Business Premium for < 250 users
    3. F1
    4. E1, E3, E5
  3. Of these, only E1, E3, E5 can have the Phone System license added to support direct routing telephony, or add a Microsoft Dial Plan.

I have been told repeatedly by Microsoft support that the O365 Business Premium provides all of the licenses necessary to connect Direct Routing (which would have to include Phone System).  The facts on the ground (i.e. the licensing shown in the O365 Admin portal) do not support this.  

 

Reading this Q&A it seems that Direct Routing is not possible without an E3/E5 which means you have to have 250 (or 300) users to even use Direct Routing.  

 

I'm getting confused . . . I want to use Direct Routing with Teams for a small organization size.  Any help is really appreciated.

You can buy E 1,3, or 5 licenses for any number of users, there isn't a lower limit. There is a higher limit 300 for Business Premium.

Is Direct Routing included in the O365 E1, E3, E5 licenses? Or is it included in Skype for Business Plan 2? Or is it in the Phone System license? Does O365 F1 include Direct Routing or do we have to buy SfB P2 to get it? Or do we have to step them up to E1?
