MS Teams Graph API : Info needed about 'details of the sender of a chatMessage'

Nilay Dhamecha

The /messages API returns the details of the sender of the message. The sender can be an application, device, conversation or a user (see the JSON below).

"from": {
"application": null,
"device": null,
"conversation": null,
"user": {
"id": "user-Ii",
"displayName": "John Doe",
"userIdentityType": "aadUser"

I wanted to know what each property meant.

For example it is pretty clear that 'user' property means the member of a team who is the initiator of that conversation.

Similarly what does application, device and conversation mean? Can someone please give examples for the same?

Microsoft has not explained this clearly in its documentation.
