MS no longer supporting Direct Routing?

I've heard from 2 large carriers that Microsoft is planning to no longer support Direct Routing for MS Teams Calling and only Operator Connect. Has anyone heard this or know more about what they are referring to? I can't imagine this would be the case.

I have checked and even DOCS site is recently updated: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoftteams/direct-routing-configure
