Migrating Lync 2013 to Teams with Direct Routing

Copper Contributor

Hi All,

I'm midst of planning to migrate Lync 2013 to Microsoft Teams with Direct Routing. During this pandemic, we have subscribe o365 to allows user use SharePoint, Teams, Group and One Drive. At this moment we didn't have AD Connect to sync between on-premises to cloud. and user is sign in to Teams and Lync 2013 using different email address. We plan to move all the user to Teams with direct routing in 1 shot without having half in on-premises and half in cloud.

Current Situation :

User sign in to Teams -> username@teams.contoso.com

User sign in to Lync 2013 -> username@contoso.com

Existing Environment

AD on-premise

Exchange On-premise

Lync 2013 with PSTN

Future Environment :

AD on-premise

Exchange hybrid (to allow user integrate with calendar in teams)

Exchange on-premise (mailbox is remained in on-premise)

AD connect (to sync user with cloud and on-premise)

Lync 2013 hybrid (to move user to cloud)

My Question is :

1. If we sync user via AD Connect , and move user to Teams. is user able to login as username@contoso.com and able to see their existing file, teams, group and conversation? previously they login teams as username@teams.contoso.com. same as login to SharePoint and OneDrive.

2. Can we just turn off the Lync 2013 Server and Assigned license for Teams, SFB Online and Phone system and sign in to teams as username@contoso.com (because we don't have mix user on-premise or online)

These are very basic question you are asking, please read Lync 2013 Migration, FYI Lync 2013 doesn't migrate directly to teams. SFB 2015 CU 8+ or 2019 is supported. Be Mindful MS team is more than migration, it is about changing users mind set and proper strategy required before migration. User acceptance.

Direct Routing is too need deep strategy as it involves planning and understand complete infra understand.

aka.ms/teamsacademy refer url and enhance your teams knowledge. If you need to upgrade upgrade before 31st July if you are on Lync 2013 or upgrade Lync 2013 to SFB 2015 /2019 and migrate strategically.
