Microsoft Teams Launches Chat with Self Feature

MVP

Microsoft Teams users can use the chat with self feature to create a special chat designed to take notes and capture other information someone might want. It’s similar to features that exist in other messaging platforms, so it’s likely that the Teams chat with self capability will be well-accepted by users, especially those with secrets to share with themselves.

I unpinned Chat with Self. I didn't try to hide it. Chat with Self seems highly resistant to being hidden.

@Tony Redmond how do I disable this feature?

You can't. Just unpin and hide the chat.

@Tony Redmond it keeps coming back. So annoying!

The most disturbing thing is that when it comes back, you have to UNHIDE because they show a hidden chat :( So UNHIDE then HIDE. What a mess !!!
I have a loop in my Chat to self. I pin it to the top and every time I log out and back in again it is no longer pinned

@Tony Redmond
Is there any Power Automate functionality?
e.g. can I send a Teams message based on a new mail trigger?  (I am looking at this as a private Team "Group Chat")

@Paul Plummer I'm not much of a Power Automate person, but I believe that you can run Graph API requests from a trigger. If so, you should be able to post to a Teams chat.

@Tony Redmond Why, oh Why does it not allow you to enter a call with yourself to enable a fast and easy way to record your screen as a training element??  That would be mega useful.  having a text chat with myself is a little one-sided.

Because this is a chat with self feature, not a video yourself feature. But there's nothing to stop you sending yourself a video message https://office365itpros.com/2022/09/26/teams-video-chat/ or recording a video with Stream and posting it to the chat https://office365itpros.com/2022/09/20/recording-video-stream-sharepoint/

@Tony Redmond

A coworker was able to see the Chat with self channel in the web version of teams, so is you use the group chat 48:notes in Power Automate you can post to chat with self.

My flow:

1) When an Email is Flagged trigger

2) Convert Time zone of Received time

3) Compose Link to Original Email:
- concat('<a href="https://webmail.apps.mil/owa/?ItemID=',triggerOutputs()?['body/id'],'&exvsurl=1&viewmodel=ReadMessag...">Message</a>')

4) Create Teams Post
- Post as user
- Post in Group chat
- Group Chat 48:notes
- Message
-- Subject
-- Date
-- Link to Email

@Tony Redmond Do you know where the messages saved.? I recorded a video using the Teams Chat with Video. It has a small video icon at the bottom. It's persistent and I can watch it again after couple of days. I need to share the file with someone, and cant find any share or download option. Any suggestions on how can one download the video message or file.

@Vinay Bhatia Great question. I know you can forward within Teams but not sure where it is stored. Most likely somewhere inaccessible.

I believe the video is stored in Azure Media Services. I don't think you can download the file.
Hmm...the word and text attachments are simpler. The .docx or .txt files are being saved to my One Drive for Business.
