Hi,
Does anyone have any information on when external camera will be recognised in Teams on IOS for IPad?
I Use my IPad Pro as primary tool for work and have the Apple Studio Display.
It would be great to use the camera for this function.
Every time (many times a day) I receive or give a call I have to move the call to the iPad rather than the screen to utilize the camera-function.
Works well with FaceTime

Hello @Tompa1978
welcome to the Microsoft community, my name is Recep I'll be happy to help you today.
I understand that you want to know when external camera will be recognized in Teams on IOS for IPad?
External cameras are not currently supported on iPadOS. Whether or not Teams can utilize this feature depends on Microsoft providing support for it in their app. In the meantime, external cameras should still work with Apple-made apps like FaceTime however Microsoft is currently looking into this feature but currently there is no ETA as to when this will be implemented.

This is not true. External cameras are supported by iPadOS 17. They work for FaceTime and Zoom, but sadly not Teams. I have a similar issue in that I use my iPad extensively for work, but when I join video calls, I don’t use Teams. It’s very disruptive.

bumping this thread as well. It’s been supported for almost a year now on iPadOS. It would be ideal if teams could support it.

Why is Microsoft not addressing this issue? It's a straightforward update for TEAMS that many users are requesting. Zoom already supports this feature on iPadOS. For those of us relying solely on iPads, the camera's orientation is preventing full usage.
We've been patient. Please inform us if the external webcam feature will be implemented for TEAMS soon, or we may need to consider switching to another product.

I would just like to add my support for this request. It is insanely frustrating that the iPadOS Teams app does not support my Apple Studio Display camera.
Thank you!

@Tompa1978 I have had some repeated success with my iPad Pro M4 running iPadOS 18 Developer Beta. My iPad is connected to an LG UltraFine with a single USB-C/Thunderbolt cable. I can use my LG's external camera when the Teams app is closed, and I join a Teams meeting directly from Outlook's calendar invite. It's critical for Outlook to be on the main screen (LG display) when Teams is launched. The Teams app starts on the main screen (LG display), and my meeting uses the LG display's camera. When Outlook is displayed on the iPad, and Teams is launched, it will use my iPad's camera. If I move Teams to the main display from the iPad, then my camera stays on the iPad but rotates by 90 degrees.

I HAD IT WORKING! on current stable iOS 17.5.1 and Teams 6.14.0 2024Jul-T2. (right after the issue that main camera video is upside down). Directly from Teams app, It requires some fidgeting I'm still figuring out (the order of connecting/reconnecting the camera vs starting Teams App/reconnecting power). I'm using Logitech G920 and the usb hub has to be powered. It shows good on both main and external screen. The only main issue is that Teams is displaying the camera in portrait (the aspect is 9:16, not 16:9), it's not a big issue. The orientation is right.

@FilipPokorny If you work it out please share. I was able to get it working also on the build just before the upside down M4 ipad video issue but couldn’t work out the specific combination of plugging / restarting teams to replicate. However since the latest teams build, 6.14.1 (fixed upside down video on m4) i can’t get it to bring in an external webcam feed at all.

@PaulB2455 I also cannot get it to work still. Have not found a way to get Teams on my M4 iPad to recognise my Apple Studio Display camera. If anyone works out please share. Thanks a lot!

What I've done is the following:
1. Force quit Teams
2. Start FaceTime and switch the correct camera
3. Leave FaceTime running and start Teams
4. Join your meeting
It doesn't always work the first time. The most I've had to repeat the sequence is twice.
We're running iOS 17.5.1, with Teams 6.14.1 Build 6.14.77.2024142602/0727

@brian-g
I’ve tried this & couldnt get it to work.
Teams has mentioned that this has also been added in the What’s new in Microsoft Teams but its not working for me on my iPad.
The below does not work!
July 2024
connect an external webcam to your iPad
Use an external webacam to improve your video quality during teams meetings on your iPad with iOS 17. Simply connect your webcam to your iPad before joining your meeting.
