Merging two tenants but keeping separate domains

Copper Contributor

Hello all,

I'm new here so any help with my question would be greatly appreciated.

Our situation is as follows:

We have a parent company that created a tenant within Azure AD using a single domain let's say xyz.com. When a separate company under the parent was formed, it was configured as a separate tenant with its own domain let's say bgy.com. Now, this has caused issues with collaboration as anyone under bgy.com domain can only be added as a guest to the xyz.com domain and vice-versa. Teams, Yammer, SharePoint, do not integrate properly. My goal is to merge the two tenants, keeping the original xyz.com domain and moving bgy.com beside it. If I add the new domain and then remove it from the previous tenant so that it can be verified, will I need to update DNS records or anything else so that emails continue to be delivered and collaboration between end-users at both sites can be integrated into teams, yammer, SharePoint, etc?
