Meeting Recording - Compute power

Brass Contributor

Hey guys,

I am searching for a documentation - where teams is recording the meetings - according to this one:

Record a meeting in Teams - Office Support (microsoft.com)

"The recording happens in the cloud" - but where? Is this located to my tenant - or where the meeting has started? I mean the compute power - stored is onedrive for business - this is clear for me. Maybe someone has an answer for me!

Hello, the recording is processed in Azure Media Services and then stored in either OneDrive/SharePoint (or Stream if still using that).
Thanks! Do you also know in which region this happens? Is this depending in which region the meeting starts - or depending of the tenant of the customer?

No worries, you can read about the data location here https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoftteams/location-of-data-in-teams

(depending on location of the tenant initiating by all logic)

Great! Thank you :)
One additional question - I know a teams meeting with people from different locations - starts in the location from the first participant which is joining. So my tenant is in europe, but the first colleague is joining from US - this means the meeting is running in the US - When I from germany start the recording - is then azure media service from the US triggered? Or from my overall tenant which is in europe?
Hello again, you're getting into subscription, geo and data residency details I usually don't get involved in. But from my perspective, if you only have one tenant which is located in Europe that's where the associated data is going to be processed as well (i.e. Teams/Exchange/SharePoint) at least as far as I know.

You can do some deep diving here when it comes to data locations regions and geo.
