Leaving one Team call and then returning without disrupting the first call

Copper Contributor

I am converting a 40-hr classroom course to virtual. The new classroom will be in the Teams government edition. My agency has turned off chat and we do not have any other features available other than the video calling. For students to do exercises in groups, I would like them to leave the main call and go do their team exercise and then return to the main call. 1. Do I have to set up 3 calls: 1st main call, 2d group call, 3rd another main call? Not everyone I am teaching is tech-savvy so I fear I will lose my students with all this recalling. Sadly, especially in times of COVID-19, there is no money for apps or additional options. Suggestions, ideas, help, would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance. - LLipton

Hello @Llipton   The scenario you're describing would be perfect for doing a "breakout room."  I've included info here:  https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/microsoft-teams-community-blog/how-to-do-breakout-rooms-in-mi...

You can contact the author of the blog if you need further details.

Here's a video from a Microsoft employee: And a video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d_iD5PLgr08

You don't need to create several call-in numbers for the main class;  if the instruction is to go to the breakout room and then return to the class, they use the same number.
