Hi everyone,

 

I use a rather exotic keyboard layout called "Neo2 Layout" [https://www.neo-layout.org/]. Since I started using Microsoft Teams around 6 months  I have been unable to type '?' with this layout. Instead of inputing the question mark, Teams display a list of short-cuts in an overlay window. So every time I want to ask a question, I have to:

  1. switch to a different program (any program that allows keyboard input),
  2. type '?',
  3. select,
  4. copy,
  5. go back to Teams,
  6. paste.

You can imagine how annoying it's become to ask questions in Teams.

 

A week ago typing '!' [exclamation mark] also stop working!!!! What the…?! Instead of '!' Teams interprets the key as a '/', which toggles the search function.

 

What can I do to have these two issues solved?

Well, you cannot realistically expect the Teams folks to support all the crazy layouts out there, but in general you can open a support case and see if the issue is within scope. They had some similar issues with the German language and the command bar, I will try to ping some folks on this, but cannot promise anything :)

Thanks for your answer. Well, I know I cannot expect that, just as I cannot expect any other application I use to work smoothly with this weird layout.

 

The thing is that every other application has no issue with this layout. So, what does it tell me? That only Microsoft Teams does not know how to properly implement strange keyboard layouts? How come everybody else does? Just saying… I wonder what is it that other developers are doing correctly that perhaps Teams is not doing? I'm a developer myself, so I can't help but wonder.

 

I'll keep an eye on the other issues… perhaps a generic solution will be found soon.

just to keep the discussion going, it seems that Teams made some sort of decision regarding keyboard and shortcuts that has now many implication and ramifications. From the comments I read here https://microsoftteams.uservoice.com/forums/555103-public/suggestions/19043341-edit-shortcuts

it seems to me that the way Teams implements keyboard interaction is creating issues for non-us keyboards…

Yes, there was a known issue with some international layouts, which should now be fixed. But I'm not sure whether it's the same thing as the one you are reporting, so I tried to ping some folks on this. You can open a support case to have it properly recorded/escalated if needed.

As in raise a Service Request from the Office 365 Admin portal. Alternatively you can leave feedback on UserVoice or via the app itself, but that's generally a one-way interaction.
