IP address for Shift clock-in/clock-out?

Copper Contributor

We are testing the Shift function within MS Team. Some of our users are clocked-in/out by desktop Team program. In this way, their location is not recorded. If the IP address was captured we know he/she is clocking within our office.

Could we collect the IP or other similar evidence?

I am updating this reply with the recommendation to reach out to Microsoft for an official answer as to why the "location detection" only works for mobile, when the support pages also mentions the desktop app being able to do it...

We have tried clock-in/out using mobile app and desktop app. Then export the TimeReport excel.
For all the logging using mobile app with GPS, we can see "TRUE" or "FALSE" in column "Clocked-in at the designated location".
For all the logging using desktop app, this column is always empty. So I guess desktop app cannot get the geolocation.

Our office PC need to access Internet thru proxy server. Do you think it is the problem?
Also I have tested browse some online free service to get my geolocation. The location is not my office.

Perhaps you should open a service request with Microsoft for an official answer.

hmm... according to this long and old discussion:

the feature was requested and no update for several years.

@Mark_365 Hey, let me know if you get any response from Microsoft about this. I'm actually glad I jumped on the topic as I haven't given it any thought previously (hence the earlier "guessing"). Now I know better so thanks for asking ;)

Hi @ChristianJBergstrom , Microsoft support confirmed IP address feature not existing.
