I have a personal Office 356 subscription. Another organization (in a different country, if that matters) has invited me as a guest to one of their teams. This is the first time I have attempted to use Teams.  Here is what happens

  1. I click on their invite in my email
  2. It opens a web page which in turn redirects to the Apple Microsoft Teams app on my Macbook
  3. I log in
  4. I get a splash page that says "Welcome to Teams!", and below that is a drop down menu with one entry "[Correct entity](guest)" - note that by "[Correct Entity]" I mean the name matches the organization that invited me.
  5. I select that (just to make sure) and then hit "Continue"
  6. I get stranded for a long time on a page that says "We are switching you to your other account. It will just take a moment"
  7. It eventually comes to a page that says "Welcome to the [Correct Entity]!" and a single "Continue Button"
  8. I hit that...
  9. ... and return to step 6, infinitely

I have no idea what's causing this. To be honest, I've been trying to encourage the team to move over to Slack, but they are set on Microsoft Teams and want me to keep trying to resolve this.

Can anyone help?

Try it on teams.microsoft.com instead and see what happens.

Exactly what Christopher says try it in the webbrowser and check if it works there.

Christopher and Paul, thanks for pitching in.  I tried, but no luck so far, although the behavior is a bit different.  Here are the steps I took:

  1. I copied the invitation link from the email and pasted it in Chrome for Mac
  2. It asked if I wanted to use the Web App or the desktop app and I selected Web
  3. Chrome briefly showed a "Loading Microsoft Teams" splash screen
  4. I was then take to a page that showed a "You've been invited to [Organization]" message and a "Continue" button. (Where [Organization] = the organization that invited me)
  5. I click "Continue" and immediately a new Chrome window pops up.  The address bar reads "about: blank".
  6. After 1 or 2 seconds that new window disappears and the original window goes back to Step 3, and I'm stuck in the infinite loop again

Hi This is a strange one. Last thing you could do check in Azure if your domain is on the allow list of the teams. If you are using a public account like gmail or Outlook.com please register a support ticket.

How do I check Azure?  Or is that something the inviting organization must do?

the inviting org must correct the issue.

OK. I'll reach out to them.

Hi

I have a guest user having this issue. Interestingly she is also using a Mac.

@bcallar

I am having the same issue but on a PC.  I have tried both the App and the Web version without success.  My experience is exactly what the OP Stated.

I have a similar situation but it was not the invite that was the problem.

I have 2 users, there often switch between local teams and guest.

I have this weird situations with this one user where they would sign in onto the guest teams, but when they try to go back to local, they would get prompted to need to sign. When you click "sign in", teams restarts and the same screen appears again.

I'v tried various things to get rid of it but the only way that seemed to work was to reinstall Teams. This has just happened again today and I had to delete the teams folders after i uninstalled for it to work today.

Anyone have any ideas why teams keeps doing this?

@Jim PowerIt's been over eight months. I'm struggling with the same issue. :\

@OnlyNasifI have exactly this issue. I have my own teams (free) set up with my Microsoft Account. I received an invitation to join a group from a client. Although I didn't realise at the time, because my work email address is not associated to my Microsoft account, Teams created a new account for this email address. Now I need to log in when switching from one to the other, and can't see the two options listed as I should. I believe that if invites are being sent out, then the email address needs to be associated with the Microsoft account being used for teams currently, then you can see all teams in one view (dropdown on title bar).

I have spent all day today trying to get this problem resolved. I want to delete the unwanted account, and re-accept the invitation (or a new one) with the email address correctly associated to my Microsoft account to confirm my understanding of this problem. I have "spoken" to AI, to 2 microsoft ambassadors, then three phone calls only to draw a blank. The final advice: buy Microsoft 365 for business and then you can have paid support... As I am already paying for Microsoft 365 for home, I find this pretty disappointing!

Back to the problem: where did you delete the teams folders from? I have un-installed and reinstalled teams but it made no difference.

@Paul_Jewell I got exactly the same problem here. And it's still the same story with Microsoft since decades. Make things complicated and a lot of people get work to do after another lot of people lost a lot of time trying out to solve itself. That's how I personally even made some money with DOS and NOVELL Networks 30 years ago. But soon after this I switched to other tools and services. And for to Mac, also.

At least Microsoft seems to understand that the Internet is important, meanwhile and as we know, Teams is growing like crazy, to bad for Slack. But I can't see any simplicity in this user systems with countless surfaces and layers, you have to deal with, if you try to do things in this environment.

What is Azure? What is a tenant? Why do I have to have two accounts with the same email address and to know and deal with so many things? I just would like to cooperate with people in Teams even with business account people.

As long as this all is complicated for nothing, at least me little fish is not getting a paying customer, again.
