Hello, do you mean the org-wide coexistence mode or the user setting? I've never seen any article mentioning this but if possible you should leave Islands and go Teams only.
As mentioned above, I've never read any article indicating the necessary org-wide or user coexistence mode and I haven't set it up myself either. Better reach out to Microsoft for an official answer though, in case someone else doesn't reply.
