We already have a Planner which i created using the standalone planner app in office 365.

we are now migrating to using teams and i am looking for a way to import my existing planner into Teams.

Any ideas how we do this.

Hi @kennycapes

You should be able to do as follows

1.) Go to the channel in your team
2.) Add a Tab and select planner
3.) Select Use an Existing Plan from this Team

Does the existing plan appear in there? If so, add it.

Let me know how you get on.

Solution
This is only going to work if you are adding planner plans that belong to the curren team...if the Planner Plan is linked to another Group / Team there is no out of the box way to do this. You will have two choices here:
1) Export Plan Data and import Plan Data using Graph API
2) Use a third party tool that allows you to export and import Plan Data: https://apps4.pro/import-export-planner-tasks-using-excel.aspx

Ah - then that's the definitive solution. Thanks @Juan Carlos González Martín.

@kennycapes - please, mark Juan's answer as the best response.

What if it's not connected to a team at all? I have a plan in progress that has a few people added to it. It's not currently in Teams at all, but now I want to add it to an MSTeams team.

Your Plan is connected to an Office Group, every Team is also connected to an Office Group, these may or may not be the same group. If they are not, you are currently out of luck, because you cannot move/copy a Plan from one Group to another -(I know this totally lame, but that is the current limitation)
You may be able to work around this, by opening the Plan in the Planner app, clicking on the Site link (next to the plan name elipses), then from SPO, click on the Create Team link in the bottom left corner

Then you create a team out of that Group In teams! create a new team, choose existing group -> then choose the group (same name as the Planner plan )

As Dean said, if you have an existing team already, you can’t add the plan to this!
You can copy the plan to a new team (will be created when you do this)
You might also try to add a website tab and add the planner there in the current team if you have one

Great suggestions by @Dean Gross and @adam deltinger.

@Christopher Hoard in my case only one of my plans show, and it's not the one I want.

Thank you so much for this solution! I wanted to move a standalone plan into an existing teams group just so I can move the open task cards from one plan to another (2019 to 2020). I was about to give up and just create a copy of the planner but if I did, I'd lose the existing comments in the task cards which I did not want to happen. But with your suggestion, I just created an entirely new teams group based on the existing plan as instructed and I am now able to create new plans and freely move the task cards from one plan to another instead of creating a copy of the plan and losing the comments in the process! Thank you!

@Dean Gross  Hi Dean, I am trying to follow these instructions but I can't find the site link, no matter what i click on. Please can you screenshot this? Thanks so much Penny

@shandigp This is ridiculous! Find I find out you cannot duplicate a bucket with ease - now I cannot add an existing Planner to teams? I thought this package was created for increased productivity! Very poor.

@Dean Gross I'm having trouble following your navigation and understanding what "SPO" means.  Can you break down the Navigation for us noobs?  Maybe give a screenshot on where you see the "Copy to Teams" option.  I'm not seeing it anywhere.

@kennycapes There is one more way to do this that i have found, but it's not perfect

If you create a new tab and select the "website" option you can take your plan link out of planner and input it into teams. This will create a tab in teams that links into your planner, like a mini web window. As long as the ones who try to access it are logged into office365 and are int he plan, you shouldn't have any issues, other than loosing the teams integration (ie tasks showing up in activity in teams, ect) but this way you get the full planner, not the lite version that teams uses

Hi @Juan Carlos González Martín

I have started a planner but have not yet added members to it, do you know why I can't see it in TEAMS ( (unfortunately I can therefore not add it)
