I'm hoping there is an easy way to do this but I have searched and searched and just can't find it.
I want to always see the list of the channel's members and their status. On Slack it is so easy to get to this view and leave it as part of my Slack screen setup all day (see picture below). I don't want to have to click a bunch of buttons every time I want to see the list of members and who is active and available on Team - I want to see it all the time. What is the process to set up that view in Team?

For all the chat lists I've had in the past it's been a column on the side with the list of names - on the right for IBM Sametime and Slack, on the left with HipChat. This seems like such a basic feature I'm wondering what other people do - is there some other approach by Teams to see the list of members which is why you don't have it today?

I don't agree with this just for the purpose of presence because I think it would waste screen real estate for not much use :P. I can see who i'm talking to in Teams channels with their presence icon's on their chats. Or I can bounce to a new chat window to see their presence etc.
Anyway, I know they are working on adding it so you can probably see who's Favoriteing a channel and list those people which I think would be the best solution because then you can see who gets notifications for @channel mentions, so for that reasoning I could see this being a good thing to have.
Anyway, There is a user voice entries to add this feature and they are working on it, so should be out before you know it :) https://microsoftteams.uservoice.com/forums/555103-public/suggestions/16911121-ability-to-see-who-is...

You can see the list of users in the Manage Team option if you are an owner.
If you are not an owner, you can request to be made one.
Other than that, there aren't any current options other than asking an owner for the list.

First, thanks to Christopher for the link to the uservoice link.
Since you never actually join/leave a channel, the notion of channel "members" doesn't make sense. The closest you would have are channel participants (posting to the channel makes you a member, but that doesn't leave you with a way to "leave") and members who have favorited a channel. Having access to both participants and favorited would be helpful, such as when scheduling a meeting, but that seems like the only place I need those lists. I updated a ticket elsewhere suggesting buttons for "Add Team Members" "Add Channel Participants" and Add "Channel Favorited" to the schedule meeting interface. I voted for the suggestion, but (like Chris) I worry if the implementation always takes up screen real estate when we seldom want to see/copy this information. BTW - We don't just need to see the list, we need to be able to copy/paste the list.

Members can access settings and see the list of members. I checked Settings >> Member Permissions and I don't see a setting for removing that ability, so I think it is always available.

Personally the location I first looked for this feature was as a tab. It seems like something that should be an extension to your team channel rather than part of the application by default. This ensures it doesn't mess with the interface but is easily available if desired.

I am glad to see that I am not the only one scratching my head at this. Let me just say that I WANT to use teams but not seeing the organization as a list of users and their status is a BIG stumbling block. EVERY other chat/collaboration application has it. We need to catch up here.

Hello Frank and others,
It's not that we can't manage to navigate the UI, it's that it's a poor UI.
Seeing who's instantly "in" a channel at a glance is a native natural feature of chat. I think MS Teams have gone too far in trying to disrupt the whole chat concept working on new ground breaking features... when they should go for quick solid wins like implementing the basic MVP features instead.
Yes there are the core group of users that love Teams current feature set, but then there's the vast majority that look on laughing at the lack of basic features. This being one of them.
It'd take a strong product lead/owner to change their current thinking in the face of all the media coverage.

I agree. I have used Slack, Hipchat/Stride, and others but I am not sure why the developers feel that adding a tab like Andrew suggested that shows all members in a team at a glance is not a feature they wish to pursue. I also agree that it will take a team leader (no pun intended) to push the developers for this. All we can do at present is voice our concerns and hope that Microsoft is actually listening. Please let them be listening.

I know this topic is several months old so I am a little late to the party. However I think it would be nice if my Teams could show up as Contact Groups in the Contact List. I know I can create Contact Groups and add my team members there, but as my teams grow and shrink I know how 2 places that I need to add and remove members. If the Teams showed as a Contact Group that would make things a whole lot easier.

Welcome to the thread Tophors and I hope to keep this thread active and get something done. this is a good idea. the problem is that these views were never available in Communicator/Lync/S4B and it seems that Teams is working off of that foundation. These displays are available in competitors like Slack and that is what we pray the Teams team (that just sounds wrong) realize. convenience and ease of use is what drives companies to one platform or another. The techie treats and features are great but they don't sell the product to the masses. It needs to show you what you need as you need it. I know I can look to see who is in a team but that is not convenient. I need to see the status for the person NOW. I need to know that a member was added without looking. I need to be able to chat to the new hire without knowing their last name because they are in the all users contact list.
Upvote this thread. Keep it current.

I am migrating my team from HipChat to MS Teams next week. I already have a couple groups complaining about the sidebar for a channel (room) to show followers/members and their status. They basically want to call Teams garbage and will be a thorn in my side moving forward if I can't find a way to get this to show member status. Any updates on whether this is coming would be greatly appreciated. Right now, logging on to the webapp, while also on the windows client you can see members on one and be in the channel on the other.... yuck.
Thanks! T

Thanks, Adam. I noticed the UserVoice person championing the first idea was @Suphatra Rufo but she is no longer with MS, she left to AWS in Jan. So I wonder if someone is still moving that forward? Lots of little things, hopefully we can get some more complete features to feel as well-rounded as other clients, like HipChat, for example.
