Our users messages are appearing in the Windows Desktop notifications (which is a privacy concern) and would like to see ways to turn off or hide via Group Policy.

Here are the respective settings - Any ideas?

These settings are not controlled through registry as they are actually tied server side when you make a change. Currently to my knowledge there is no way to do this.

I can't really think why this is a privacy concern? Is there someone else looking at their screen when the notifications arrive who wouldn't be when they load Teams? I'm not sure I understand.

People should set DnD when presenting so things don't interrupt their powerpoint.

We work in an open office, if a colleague is showing me something on their screen then all Team notification messages are in plain view.  Our teams quite often work in pairs or collaborate freely around the office.  It wont be so bad if the contents of the message is not summarised in the Toast notification, but unfortunately the first few lines of the message is shown.

@Steven Collier

I know it's been a while since this discussion.

This is also a litigation/eDiscovery concern.  If you have a retention policy on teams that is say 30 days, but you have chat notifications going into email that has say a 365 day retention, you now have content that should have a 30 day retention with a 365 day retention on it.

@proets I would argue that would entirely correct, if you get an email notification it should be treated like email. If I forwarded it then it should be tracked and recorded like email.

Anyway, why would it make sense to have different retention periods for email and Teams.

@Steven Collier An instant message is just that; a quick informal communication.  Something like "Hey, can you come to my office" or "Are you available to talk about something".  An email is more formal.  Keep in mind I am referring to 1 on 1 Teams Chats.  Not groups or channels.

Is there a way to disable banner notifications corporate wide via PowerShell or Graph API?
