How do I set the default view to tiles?

I would like to see thumbnails of my files. I can change the view to tiles under All Documents, but it changes back to the list view if I browse to another location. 

 

I also see that I can "Save View" except it doesn't save it. I'm not even sure what the purpose of saving it is, especially if it doesn't permanently change the way the files look.

I have the same question. I need to navigate images the majority of the time, and it's tedious to keep selecting "tile" view each time I exit one image to see the rest. Also, wondering when I click to a photo, if there's a way to click through to see the previous/next photo without having to close the window and go back to the file folder.
