As a Slack admin I regularly have to moderate my channels for inappropriate content and remove it when I find it by deleting the offending post. How would I do this in Microsoft Teams? I can only see the option to delete my own posts and replies in team discussions.

Currently you can only delete your own messages and cannot deleted other ones...just remember Teams is in preview and the Team is getting all the feedback we can give about missing features and issues

This response was valid until last week but now it's just annoying that I have chats with former colleagues, no longer with the company, that I can't remove.

Interesting problem to have. You can control in Admin Settings some moderation capability around giphys and such, but there is no way I know of to delete others messages or do any moderation beyond that. Teams is meant to be more open and community driven and policed. If you have users posting awful things in there, I know this doesn't solve your problem but you've got a culture issue going on. No amount of technology is ever going to solve for that. :)

1:1 Chats will eventually scroll down your list and after further inactivity they will dissappear completely. Haven't watched close enough to see what that timer is yet, but I'd take a guess it is somewhere in the 2-4 weeks range.

I'm fine with adding this as an option, but as an admin I'd want to be able to disable this. Mistakes can be edited/deleted within 24 hours of sending by the sender themselves. Anything beyond that is moderation that the community should be doing itself in my opinion. I would not give my Team Owners the power to do this as this can end up knocking entire conversations out of context and making the tool itself look like it has broken or dropped a message when it would in fact be user intervention.

I would like to second this.  The MOST important thing here is relevancy of content and ease of use.  There are use cases in addition to the ones stated above that should be considered.  Would be extremely valuable to be able to delete posts as an owner.

I have several 1:1 chats from four weeks ago, with no further activity, and they have not dropped off completely. I'd like to be able to control what I view (I like to keep my chat history clean and up-to-date), so I'll continue to wait and see if these old chats disappear someday.

As the Network Administrator for my organization, I would have some concerns about permanently deleting any content. If a user is posting in a way that violates company policy or is just downright inappropriate, there needs to be a record that can be referred to for disciplinary action. I do agree that owners (and users) should be able to delete or hide messages so that it is no longer viewable in a channel or private chat, but not permanently removed from the chat history for compliance reasons.

To answer the original question, this can be done now, at least in first release.

We're looking to introduce O365 to our workplace soon and I'm having a play with the functionality.  I've managed to add an RSS news alert to our Teams chat, and now I can't figure out how to remove it!  I don't even remember how I added the RSS.  

 

I've looked online and can't find any answers.  Are we stuck with these news alerts forever now?

 

Any help from the community will be greatly appreciated!  Thanks.

Click the ... by the Channel and choose Connectors. There you should find RSS and a Configure button. You can change or removed it from that interface.

If I can't delete a member thread I can't work with teams in my class. The minute a 14 year old posts something racist, sexist, or generally in bad taste the experiment is over. And it happened in the first hour of my use. Say goodbye.

When I click the ... button the only option I get on the conversation is to mute the user. It doesn't delete the currently offensive post.

The only option I have is to mark a chat as a Favorite. My opinion here is that if I'm given the option to mark a thread as a Favorite, I should also be given the option to Delete. I like to keep my information organized, and part of my organizational method includes deleting irrelevant information. There is no reason for me to see chats from May with a coworker, who no longer works for my company.

 

I'll be very happy when/if MS Teams gives individual users the abiliity to delete chats.

For Team Owners to delete others conversations, the Admin needs to turn this on in the Admin Center. Here are the steps: Admin Center | Settings | Services & add-ins | Microsoft Teams. Now expand Messaging and turn “Allow owner to delete all messages” = ON.

Not for nothing, but I can't stand how MS puts out products that are not actually finished, then waits for users to write in with all their complaints and/or concerns, then (maybe) fixes them.  I get small little things that may be overlooked but, seriously, nobody on the Teams team thought that maybe it would be a great idea to give the owner permission to delete certain conversation and/or threads!?  Facebook has moderators, community forums have moderators, almost all the community based websites I know of have at least one person who has the ability to censor what is being said!

We cannot delete messages in Teams even though we have that setting turned on under Services and Add-ins.  There is no option to delete.

There are settings per Team as well. As an owner, click the ...'s next to your team name in the left nav, choose View Team, and look for the Settings tab along the top. The toggles live under the Member permissions section.

When I click that ellipsis, all I see is "Mark Unread" as an option, and I am the team owner.

So you can delete a post/message from anyone in the chat, but not an entire conversation correct?  I.e. I have a chat with a coworker who is no longer at the company that shows on the left hand side, is there still now way to delete the actual conversation?

I totally agree with this. And if there was a way to even archive the messages so that they were out of view. Teams is very cluttered when it doesn't allow you to archive or delete. Even channels...you can't archive a channel. There are some channels we created and don't want to delete, but we do want to archive.

If you go to your comment, click on the 3 dots at the upper right. First option is "edit." Second is "delete" and third is "mark as unread."

But it leaves a footprint that the entry was deleted. That is not acceptable in a well-populated and used team.

That footprint does go away. It doesn't persist more than a day (maybe less). It was annoying to me, too, but hasn't been an issue since those disappear.

You should be able to delete them. AFAIK you have (48?) hours after the initial message is sent to delete/edit them. After that, it becomes locked.

The lack of moderated content is what kept me from rolling out Yammer broadly. Not being able to remove content that is no longer of value is frustrating.

 

For instance, I have documents emailed directly into the team email address. Documents are attached to incoming emails. I often need to rename the documents after they come in, and have no desire to retain the .eml files, so delete those. But now I'm stuck with an email in the conversation with links that now fail, because I have renamed a document to make searching for it more functional. Click on the links now result in 404 errors. The easy answer? Delete the email that is no longer required in the conversations tab. Except I can't.

 

If someone has a better suggestion on how to manage incoming content from external sources, I'm open to hearing it. Seems like I could delete emails coming in to Microsoft Groups. Why not here>

@David McKnight it sounds like you are using Team emails as purely a way to load documents, why not take more control of this and use Flow to receive an email into a shared mailbox and then rename and upload it into Teams, then post a message you want to the channel to announce its arrival.

I absolutely need the ability to moderate channels. For the same reason the FCC moderates broadcasts.

 

When I do a risk/reward analysis it's a quick conclusion to hold off on a switch from Slack to Teams.

 

Moderating channel feeds has been around since the early days of 2400bps BBSs and IRC from the 80s.

 

This isn't new technology. This is must have functionality.

Looking at this today, it is not an option as an owner of a team to delete a post from another person.  Was this feature removed?  We are looking for a way to delete the entire conversation history to start fresh on a team.  Does anyone know if that feature exist?
