Hi all,

 

been using Teams - free version- for a couple of months now with guest access enabled, and didn't had any problem, until last week, when one of our guest members was suddenly removed from the team. Please note that we didn't remove him and he didn't leave the team. The only message on the Channel was '<Guest Name> was removed from the team.' That's is.

The problem that we have now is that we can't re-add him. Microsoft Team detects him in the 'Add member' dialog box, but when we try to add him, we get the error "We couldn't add member. / You are not authorized." . Print-screen attached for more details.

Please note that I am the owner of the team and got full right on the teams in regards to add/remove people. Also my co-owner has the same error. We are using the FREE version of Teams.


Any thoughts are highly appreciated, as at this moment this a real blocker for us.

I think you can hit portal.azure.com if your the creator of the teams on your account. Go into active directory and then users and guest users and delete the guest user from the tenant. Then you should be able to re add.

Thank you Christopher. Tried this workaround and all looked promising, but in the end it didn't work.

Steps that I did:

1) went into the Azure Portal ->AAD ->removed the guest user
2) back to Teams and re-invited the guest -> all ok until now, as the invite was sent out to the user

3) the guest accessed the invite email and after a while (while loading Teams), Teams replied that he couldn't be added. " You don't have access, please contact the company administrator"

 

4) I also tried adding the user directly into the Group from the AAD. Same result as above.

 

If I go to Teams, the user is not listed as invited or pending. If I try to re-add him from Team, I'm back to my original error ("We couldn't add member / You are not authorized").

Should the guest user do something on his side ? He has a free Microsoft account as well.

Na. Shouldn’t have too. Did you go to deleted users after removing the guest and deleting it again to fully delete the account? That’s the last ditch thing I can think that you may have missed.

If that doesn’t work then your best bet might just be tell the user to setup a new MSA and invite that to the team.

 I have exactly the same error and it starts around the same time as yours. I even deleted the Team which contained the failed user and created one again but the results are the same; the user also uninstalled the app and reinstalled it again but no clue to solutions.. It feels like this a bug...

i am having same issue with a guest gmail account.  i have deleted the user from Teams and also deleted the user from Deleted users in aad.

@adam deltinger has anyone found a solution to this? I've been struggling with this. Even after removing the account from the Teams channel and AAD, adding the guest user's e-mail address results in, "Something went wrong. Try again later."
There is no way to just type in the full e-mail address to get the "add as a guest" prompt like below because Teams recognizes the e-mail address and presents you with only the option to add the cached guest account.

@vqn1970 as with anything Azure, after deleting the guest account from your Teams channel and AAD, give it time. it will eventually work. i can't tell you how many gray hairs I've received simply because it takes time to propagate changes through the Azure universe.
