Hi. Love Teams...bravo.. Only one problem. I created a group by clicking on + Create a new contact group on the bottom left. Easy! Then, I put my mouse in the To: line and started typing the team name and nothing at all came up. Question: How do a send a Group IM in Chat? Did I set the group up correctly?
Also...when I hit post from chrome....it showed an error message but did not describe the error.

OK darn! That is a bit confusing as it literally prompts you to type in a group name. Do we think that feature is just a little behind? While not a super common feature to use...it really helped me in Skype. Trying to get the whole company off skype and onto Teams.

Contact groups dont really do very much, it allows you to organise your contacts but I think really is only there for Skype contact groups to migrate to.
Teams chat is different, if you create a group chat then it persists, you can get back to it at anytime, you can even give it a name. Skype needed that function as the chat thread didn't persist.

I tried to set up the same thing in Teams this morning. You would think having the ability to address a chat to a contact group would be a no brainer, esp. when the To: box prompts you to type the name of a group. Hopefully Microsoft will add this functionality at some point down the road.

This is a deal breaker IMO, i find it impossible to use Skype without being able to add groups from the GAL for not only sorting contacts but for also keeping up with adds / deletes to departments.
This is keeping me from being able to endorse teams as a skype replacement.

@Matt_Johnson what are you trying to achieve through this? If you are trying to find people based on their department, managers or even just knowledge I would suggest using Whobot.
I think you are unlikely to see email DLs becoming a structural component in Teams, however you can modernise your DLs into Groups, then make them Teams in their own rights.

@Matt_Johnson I completely agree. Why is Microsoft deprecating Skype for Business in 1.5 years when Teams doesn't have the functionality of Skype and apparently may never have the functionality of Skype? Until there is integration with the GAL - with distribution groups, Teams is entirely unusable and we reject it.

With Covid 19 our school is using Microsoft Teams. I added my class as a contact list of students so I could send them chat messages for quick updates on assignments and such. Wondering if there is a planned update for this as I spent some time putting together my groups of students that I work with assuming that I could quickly type in the group contact into the new chat?
Thanks for any help,
