I have created a tab showing a different library in my channel and have given read permissions to all users.

When user clicks on file name, they can see EDIT button on top right and they are able to open the file in edit mode

While making changes and saving they receive Access error.

My Question is why can they even see Edit button on top when they have Read permission over library and file.

My guess to why they see the edit tab is that teams don’t know or care what permissions is set in the SP library in the back! Default perm for teams is read/write hence the edit icon in teams

Hmmm, probably a good question for @adam deltinger  , @Juan Carlos González Martín and @Chris Webb as they have a lot of SharePoint experience.

I would be interested in finding out the answer to this one too. AFAIK this is by design - but I don't know if you can take out the edit completely.

Best, Chris

Seems to be a bug in SPO integration in teams....I know the teams is busy improven SPO and Teams integration so they are probably aware of this
