Would be great to be able to see document history for a file that you create in Teams. For instance, just created an excel spreadsheet for my Team to jointly edit, but I want to be able to see who added what. Or is this possible now and I just don't know how to do it? I know I can see edit history in OneNote...

Thoughts?

I agree this should be built into Teams, however because these files live on SharePoint you can quickly hop out to SharePoint to see version history and some change notes on the details pane. So click files > Open in SharePoint. Then select the file and look at details pane, or you can look at version history there as well.

You can also access the history etc. when you open a document in the client application as well in top right corner is a history button.

I hope they are working on putting version history into Teams along with Share button etc.
Thank you Christopher! Agreed that "version history" should just be a button in Teams but figuring out how to get there in SharePoint is helpful for now. Thanks again!

Does anyone know if they will be adding this feature in Teams?

They Will add sharepoint features into the files tab in Teams! They are overhauling it time wise but are on the roadmap

Thank you, @adam deltinger!

@Mary Sprute It looks like this functionality has been added to Teams at least for Excel.

Click File > Info > Under Version history, click on "View and restore previous versions"

That's always been there, that's part of Excel and SharePoint which the Teams files are stored. So basically, bottom line if you open the file in Excel online or Excel desktop, or any office document for that matter in Teams you can view / rollback version history from the clients. Inside of Teams however this isn't possible but files stored in the Team do have the function via SharePoint / Office

Would also be great if you could add Revision-Numers (kind of Milestones in Version-History) with a quick-refference button so you quickly go to the state of a document at a project-relevant point in time!

@Mary Sprute

I would also love it if I could see how long I had a session and at what times. A log file or something similar. Is this there?

@Buit0068The timestamp and date are there when you open the file version history from within the Teams interface.

To get to the version history, open your document within Teams.

Then, select:

1. File

2. Info

3. Version History

You'll see the version history and time and date stamps on the right side. The length of time spent on each version doesn't show up here, but it does show you when it was last worked on.

You can save a copy of any version or restore whichever version you select. Naturally, you won't have the Restore option on your current version.

@Mary Sprute It looks like Teams has built in functionality for version history management now. You can save a copy or restore a previous version from within the Teams interface. For the less common scenario where you need to delete a version, you'll still use the option to Open in SharePoint. You can save a copy or restore a previous version from within the Teams interface.
