I have Teams on one monitor and a browser on the other, I just noticed that Teams was showing my status as Away, eventhough I was currently working on my computer. Skype for Business is running in my taskbar and it shows me as Available. When i moved my mouse to the monitor showing Teams it updated to show me as Available.
Is anyone else seeing inaccurate Status info like this in Teams?

yeah would be nice if they would fix that, kind of annoying should be the same presence as skype and sharepoint, etc.

If anyone noticed how their latest "update" completely broke the already terrible presence indicator, please upvote the change here ...

We need this fixed asap. We're now using Teams as a company and it says everyone is "Away" most of the time, but they're not. They are just not using the Teams app. Not good.

Aug 2017: I also find this approach a bit maddening ... I have to check in Skype for Business to see if someone is actually available or not, then go to teams to message them. The advantage of Teams was SUPPOSED to be consolidated messaging ... not working out that way.

This is killing our move from Slack to Teams. EVERYONE shows up as active in Slack but away in Teams. So, guess which platform people are using...

It's coming, as Teams replaces Skype the presence will move across.

That's the first bit of communication we've reveived since "we're working on this" over 5 months ago. https://microsoftteams.uservoice.com/forums/555103-public/suggestions/16911091-use-same-presence-as-....
I'm losing credibility with my company. We're using Teams and I keep telling them over and over, "They say it's coming...". When? It's been 5 months. Our company is a web development shop. We do software development, and I don't understand how an accurate presence indicator takes 5+ months to roll out.

This really needs to work so that my status is Active/Available when I'm using my computer, and Teams is running, even if it's minimized or in the background.
Currently, it changes to Away if Teams is in the background.
A separate thread referenced here talks about synchronizing with Skype for Business, but that's not the issue. Even if I'm not using Skype, my status should remain Available when I'm using the computer and Teams is running. (In fact, I'm trying to move from Skype to Teams, and don't want to run both!)

Any updates on this? This is THE negative feedback we're getting from every pilot team
Edit: Just saw the update on the uservoice link above. fix started rolling out yesterday

I think this has just been fixed ...

It's been suggested that this issue was resolved, but we are still experiencing the issue in both the browser based and native windows app where if you are not actively using Microsoft Teams it very rapidly changes your setting from active to away, even if you are active on your PC.
We are piloting this application as a replacement for one of Microsoft's big competitors in this area, and the IT sponsors are going to get rather bad feedback from pilot users if this isn't resolved. We are in multiple locations (a design point for Teams, I assume) and cannot see who's actually Available.
Apparently this has been an issue for some time, and it's hard to believe it's not been addressed.

It's still coming, not released yet. Sometimes things that seem obvious have large technical ramifications, or make sense to build in a certain sequence.

I guess I am confused. This link to the uservoice indicates this is fixed and users should have a status in Teams that is reflective of any activity or lack there of....
From Alex:
The fix for this is officially completed! For the specific issue of status changing to away in Teams when you are still active on the device, there was still a small % of users who saw the broken behavior, but as of today, all should be working correctly. Please note this was a backend fix, so no client update is needed.
If you believe you are still having an issue, please feel free to capture logs by typing Ctrl + Shift + Alt + 1, and send the file from your downloads folder along with detailed repro steps to teamsml@microsoft.com.

There are two features here
1. unified presence, this is where Teams and Skype are integrated so they each have the same presence, for example if I set myself to away in one it'll also be away in the other. This is still to come.
2. The uservoice feature is teams using device activity to determine presence, which is apparently done, although I've not tested it thoroughly.

FYI: Unified Presence was added with the Microsoft Teams April 2018 Update:
Microsoft TechCommunity: What’s new in Microsoft Teams – April update
Furthermore, there is another thread on this topic: Microsoft TechCommunity: Unified Presence in SfB and Teams

@Dean Gross Yes I've had the same issue. Really frustrating.
