Until now we have been using groups. Now we want to start using Teams.

How can I transfer folders, files etc from group to teams in best way?

Hi Leder, have you already gone through the process of converting your O365 Group to a Team? If not, you can find a lot of the information on the link below:

In Teams, if you choose "Join or Create a Team" you can add it to an existing group.

It seems I can only create a team from an existing team - not group.

Or am I missing something here?

Is it a private group and are you the owner of it?

Just found out that you need to be owner...Have to check that one later.

However, the group Im owner of - doesnt show me all my groups. Missing the group I want.

 Is it possible that someone has already converted it to a Team?

Try running this piece of PowerShell and see if your group is listed and if it a Group or a Team. It might help to shed some light on what's going on. You'll need SharePointPnPPowerShellOnline module installed for this to work.

$requesturl = "https://graph.microsoft.com/beta/groups"

Connect-PnPOnline -Scopes "Group.Read.All"

$accesstoken = Get-PnPAccessToken

$groups = Invoke-RestMethod -Uri $requesturl -Headers @{Authorization = "Bearer $accesstoken"}

foreach($group in $groups.value)
{
if($group.resourceProvisioningOptions -eq 'Team')
{
write-host $group.displayname "is a Team (" $group.visibility ")" -ForegroundColor Yellow
}
else
{
write-host $group.displayname "is an O365 Group (" $group.visibility ")" -ForegroundColor Green
}
}

So, the process definitely makes sense.  But here is a question.  When dealing with groups that have multiple libraries, possibly with custom permissions (let's assume everyone is part of the group), what is the best practice?

With the advent of private channels, you could create one, then move anything from each limited access library to a private channel.  The downside of this is that the files are actually in another pseudo-group.  That's fine by me.  If it is not for you...

You could make tabs for each library, but explaining that a file goes to the central location if you upload it via posts is a difficult thing to teach and guaranteed won't always be followed.  Plus some libraries obviously will not be accessible to some, which means you have tabs that go nowhere.

Anyone else have an architecture idea for moving groups with libraries with special permissions to Teams?
