Strange one - working at home on my laptop and suddenly chat disappeared within the Teams app......opened the app on my iphone and a message popped up saying settings had been changed and that the app needed to reload. It reloaded without the chat icon!
We are a small company and I am the admin so I know that no-one has changed any settings - I have looked in the Teams portal settings (via O365) and chat within group messaging policy is switched on?!
Very strange...help!

@simonjeavons What is your Teams upgrade policy set to ? If it'sset to Skype Only then this would be expected.

@simonjeavons ok, does the icon also not show on the browser view of Teams. If it's missing I think it's right to open a support ticket, if it's there then try a full log out and back in on the desktop app.

@Steven Collier done a bit more digging
My individual user upgrade settings were set to 'Skype for Business' (global setting was Islands).
So i assume that some update took place which removed my Teams chat , i just happened to be online and using Teams when it happened!
I've changed my user settings to use the org-wide settings which are 'Islands', screenshots attached.
Teams apps (iphone, desktop and web) still aren't showing the chat option......been a couple of hours so i'm sure that the change would have propagated...
any ideas?!

My end-users are reporting the same behavior and we noticed it this Monday morning. O am also the IT Admin and I did not apply changes to the settings or deploy any updates before we noticed the change. I am also setup the same way. My Development and IT Dept uses Teams while everyone else uses Skype and we can go longer private chat using Teams since Monday morning... @simonjeavons
