Channel Meeting Chat Options

My collogues are chatting in our Channel Meeting and I would like to send a message informing them that I cannot join. Is the only way to engage in a Channel Meeting chat via the Channel Meeting's post? Is there any way to have it appear in my Recent Chats pane as well?

You are correct...until you don't join the meeting or start participating in the meeting chat conversation, It won't appear in the chat area of the Teams client
