Thanks, i can do that for newly created Teams, but I am thinking the issue is from Teams created early on. Some of these Teams were around since January, and are the ones i'm having issues with.

Hello, this happens when you delete the related page in OneNote. Microsoft Teams will be unable to display the content and actually be unable to delete it from the tab.
I'm still looking for a solution.

OK so I was able to recreate the missing OneNote page in OneNote 2016. Teams now displays my page, but still I cannot delete that tab ! Like you said, it work on a newly created tab.
I created that team back in november 2016 when Teams was in beta ...

I have found this as well with a team that I created shortly after Teams was released. It not only does not let me delete it, it will not let me even move it.
My team has a large OneNote, that we use in the desktop client, for almost everything and I would love to have it embedded in Teams. I have held off porting my team's OneNote system into Teams because it did not handle multiple sections. But that functionality has now been released and I would like to have it in there. But my team has this unusable and stuck OneNote tab at the top. I suppose I could have two OneNote tabs but it galls.
I submitted a support request through Office365 and they came back and said that they are aware of the issue but have no ETA on a fix... and then closed the ticket without any further information. Seems to me that even if it is not fixed in the product, someone should be able to go behind the scenes and delete it for me. No luck.

I have now had an open ticket on this for a month. The tech keeps coming back and saying that they are telling him that this was "as designed" at the time and they have no plans to fix it. Their only options were to delete and recreate the team or start a uservoice on it. This should not be considered a uservoice enhancement but a bug fix!
This disgusts me. I am using a Team that I created early on. There is no way that we can delete and recreate it without losing a lot of history and content. (or at least they have not provided me a procedure to do so). But as far as I am concerned, I am on the only, and therefore latest version of Teams. If they were going to change this, they should have provided an upgrade path. To change the functionality of a program without consideration for existing users is not good support. To have a "version" of a Team that does not conform to the "current" design and is without any kind of upgrade capability is also a failure in programming.

Just discovered this on our Teams platform. Anyone found a solution, or should we be raising a support request as well?

Good luck! they seem singularly unresponsive on this. They have told me that it was by design at the time so it is not something that needs fixing. Then they say that I have to create a new channel and move everything there but they have no way to move conversations and this is the largest channel in our system and I cannot simply start over. So they say vote for it in uservoice and, of course, there it goes to die.

I'm now wondering if my issue was different. I found a note in an existing onenote for the team called "General_Notes" which matched the notebook from Microsoft Teams. I renamed the "General_Notes" to "General_Notes_MSTeams" . When I went back into teams it loaded the notebook I wanted it to be looking at.

Same issue but it sounds like they won't fix it. https://microsoftteams.uservoice.com/forums/555103-public/suggestions/18617155-remove-onenote-tab-fr...

My group has an educational Office license and I've got the same symptoms as others – unable to delete or rename the tab. Due to a large section, a coworker deleted the notebook that came with the team because of synch problems.
We now have a useless tab that cannot be renamed or linked back up to an existing notebook (I believe per this problem). Why this is a wontfix/'works as intended' is beyond me.

@koyae Hello all - we are having an AMA session (ask Microsoft anything) for Education TOMORROW from 9:00 - 10:00 am Pacific time. The engineers will be monitoring the AMA community site during that time, so feel free to ask about this or any other feature/issue

It's 2020 and this stupid problem still exists.
Some of our most frequented teams were created early, face this problem and the support answers, it is by design and there is no way to fix it by 1st or 2nd line engineers.
The uservoice topic (remove onenote tab from teams (uservoice) ) is closed and declined.
Under which name can "Warren" from uservoice be found here?
