Yep, I'm the owner of all the Groups in my tenant... and I've been using Teams since November, so curious to know why I can't add the Public Groups?

Currently, the list of public teams is based on suggestions from Microsoft Graph - based on what teams your "closest people" are on. That in turn is informed by signals like people you share documents to, people you meet with, people you send email to, and people who are near you in the org chat.
I have done a lot of demos the last few weeks and had to pre-seed the graph to generate suggested teams, and I know that all of the above signals are important.
If you are in a tenant (or user) with a sparsely populated graph, then you won't see suggested teams.
We're looking to expand that view to always show some teams, regardless of suggestions, and to also provide a way to see _all_ public teams in the tenant, period.

Thanks so much for your great response. I'm honored that you took the time to reply to my post, all the way here in Australia.
Afer watching your GA release video, you made it look easy, so I was trying to replicate that, but I can't even search for them.
One of the ones in your demo was the Microsoft Mechanics one, which was of interest to me as I digest a lot of their content.
Will await further updates and keep up the great work and all your videos!

We also just get a blank screen when we click Add Teams and expect to see all the public teams. I'm on the phone with Microsoft right now but the person isn't very helpful.

The official answer I got from Microsoft Support is that this feature does not exist but rather is something being worked on. The only way to join a team is to either a) Be invited by someone, or b) To search for it using the exact name since you can't search for a partial name.

OK i actually found a way to "browse" all Teams in a tenant.
I was poking around the People app and discovered this:
