If you paste the animated gif it won't be animated.
If you drag and drop it shows up as an attachment before you send it and then displays it as animated gif after you post it.

It looks like that there is a limit about 20 MB for a gif. If it is greater than 20 MB, it doesn´t show animated.
A second Problem I found is, that a GIF that is longer than 15 seconds only in some cases shows the full length. Mostly it stops after 15 seconds :(

I've found that I can add animated gifs that were on my computer to chats, but that file is then stored in Teams as a file. So if I want to add that same gif to a different conversation (because let's be real - sometimes they are better than words) but I can't add it again. Teams thinks I'm replacing the file.
I also can't figure out how to add it to a chat after it's already in the Files. I tried using the paperclip to add it, but it sends a link to the file which opens in a browser. Plus, the attach functionality is different in Teams and in Chat, but that's a different topic.
