Accept guest invitation using an existing account with different email address

Copper Contributor

Dear community,

I already have a Microsoft account for work, which I use for Microsoft Teams within my company.

Let's say the email address of this account is: john.doe@mycompany.onmicrosoft.com

For email communication with external partners, I do not use the email account above, but another one, say: john.doe@ourowndomain.com

I recieved a Teams Guest invitation to john.doe@ourowndomain.com, and when I open the invitation, I need to create a new Microsoft account for this email address. (As described here:  https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-365/business-video/join-team-guest?view=o365-worldwide)

Is it possible to accept the invitation, but use the existing account john.doe@mycompany.onmicrosoft.com?

Thanks!

Best regards,

Johannes Riemer.

Hello, I'm afraid that's not possible. The inviting org. should enable OTP which is being rolled out as default right now actually (will take some time though) https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/active-directory/external-identities/one-time-passcode#enable...

Here's the flow you're experiencing all the way down to the account creation https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/active-directory/external-identities/redemption-experience#in...
