Now in public preview: Design for focus

Microsoft

Description

Now Teams feels more modern and lightweight! See our updates to background colors, updated styling, and new Fluent icons. We are evolving our user experience for Teams for Work and Teams for Life to increase focus on what matters while modernizing to be consistent with M365.

These are the specific changes:

  • Color adjustments to the default and dark themes
  • Added drop shadows between panels
  • Icons updated with Fluent icon set, emphasizing rounded corners

Flighting status

Flighting for the color & styling changes starts today, January 14th, 2021. Icon changes will come later, with flighting starting in mid-February.

Enable your Teams client for the public preview

  1. First, IT admins need to set an update policy that turns on Show preview features. Learn how at Public preview in Microsoft Teams - Microsoft Teams | Microsoft Docs.
  2. Users then choose to join the public preview individually. See Get early access to new Teams features - Office Support (microsoft.com) for instructions.

Hi @Kaushal Mehta am i correct that the release notes have not yet been updated?

@Kaushal Mehta (LYNC)

I’m not sure if this has changed, but I think it’s really important not to show the hand pointer when the cursor is over the button

The ubiquitous hand pointer keeps reminding me, look, this is a cross-platform application, this is not a native application, goodbye UWP, come on, PWA waiting for your embrace...

The hand icon should only appear when the hyperlink in the browser is hovered, and should not appear in the application. They are buttons, menu items, not hyperlinks.

This is a poor design decision which makes it even harder to see Teams nav items. Is there any way to undo it? And why is Msft wasting their time on meaningless tweaks when there are so many bugs/issues awaiting a fix in their products?

Please change the light grey color or make it configurable!
