Value of "teams" part of Teams over group chat

At our company of about 50 users, no one uses the "teams" tab of Teams. All I see is group chat, where a user starts a chat and then adds their co-workers. 


What is the advantage of teams over multi-user chat? How have others encourage the use of team channels? I'm having a hard time selling teams over multi-user chat.

Creating and utilize teams is very different than just a chat!
Within a team you have a common file space! In chat files uploaded exist in corresponding users onedrive! There’s also a lot of options to customize your setup for collaboration! Also things like connectors! Channels to organize files and conversations! Have planner etc etc!
My recommendation is to setup a team and customize it and then invite them and let them experience this first hand
