I run a start-up (Lapa Lopa) that uses Teams for all meetings and conversations, including all of our external developers.  This includes using Teams as our phone system.  When will Teams finally be a stand-alone that no longer requires Skype for Business to receive phone calls?

How do you mean @Howard Behr ? You should be able to receive your calls in Teams for some time, how is SfB involved ?

Hi @Howard Behr -- could you help us dig in here a bit more:

 

1. Are you referring to the fact that you need to configure phone settings through the Skype for Business Admin Portal?

2. Or are you referring to the fact that you need the Skype for Business online services to make and receive phone calls?

 

Teams as a client does not require Skype for Business installed to make and receive phone calls

If someone call my Teams telephone number from outside Teams, it does not ring in Teams.  It only rings via Skype for Business, which I had to install to be able to answer my phone.

Note that the only options for Teams setup (see attached) always include Skype for Business, but maybe there is some other setting that manages this better.

I see, you'll need to set your user or tenant to Teams Only mode, at the moment that doesn't show for everyone as an option, but @Jamie Stark confirmed elsewhere that it wouldn't be long now until it does (we're all holding you to that Jamie).
