It's working for me now as well. Thank you Microsoft!
Now we just need to get this little issue sorted out ;)

@Mike Tholfsen - any ETA on this being released for edu? without it, teams won't be adopted for classroom replacements.

For me it's still not working, or I can't find it..?

You can manually check for updates by clicking your profile in the lower left and then choosing Check for Updates. It's live for me now and am about to attach an existing notebook as well as create a new one. I'll update the results later. Thanks MS for getting this out!

How is everyone getting it to work? I've updated my Teams, am non-EDU, but when I add Tab and choose OneNote I'm still only seeing the option to create a new notebook. Tips would be appreciated! Thanks!

Hi Kacie, you're doing it right. Mine did the same thing initially yesterday. After you click the Check for Updates, look in the upper part of the window and you'll see it getting the update, or telling you that you are on the latest version. If latest, try quit the app (remember that closing it leaves it running in the system tray)...right click the system tray icon and quit and then relaunch. Mine started working after that.

Andy, thank you so much! A force-quit and restart brought the option into play for me. Thanks a ton!

You found it! ;) Thanks everyone for the great response on this thread!
I am delighted to announce that we have shipped the new OneNote tab app. This will allows users to both create new notebooks for a team and add existing notebooks. You may have to restart Teams to see the changes.
Users are able to select a specific notebook section for the tab app to always show first. We will shortly be adding the ability to do so via the 'Browse notebooks' option, but currently you can do this by pasting a link to the specific section via the 'Paste a OneNote link' option. We will also shortly be adding the ability to add a new section to an existing notebook.
The new tab app will show an entire notebook within the tab, rather than just one section. However old OneNote tabs will not be affected. To take advantage of the new tab, please remove old OneNote tabs and re-add them using the new experience.
Thanks everyone for your patience and please do send any feedback about the OneNote integration, either through the 'Feedback' button in Teams.

Hi Adriaan, unfortunately the new experience is not available for EDU yet.
@Mike Tholfsen can help collect any requirements that you might have for a new EDU experience.
We have planned to start work on this later this year.
Thanks for your patience,

I thought I understood this but I guess I don't, can someone please explain how this works. I am non edu.

Hi Brett, if you're asking what is this all about, then maybe this helps....MS has added new features to the OneNote functionality inside of MS Teams. So, instead of a OneNote notebook that starts with a simple unchangeable section, you get full featured functionality.

When I copy the section link from the OneNote Windows app and Paste as OneNote Link in the Teams Windows desktop app's new OneNote tab, the first page of the Notebook is shown and not the first page of the Section from the link. When I use the same link copied from the OneNote Windows app and paste into the browser, I get the first page of the Section. A screenshot of the link in the OneNote app that I used is below. Can you provide the steps needed to open the tab directly in a Section and not the Notebook? Thanks!

Sorry for the delay in reply. I think we have figured out what the issue is. Does the section that you are copying a link to have any spaces or special characters in the name? If so, the fix will shortly be released, and I'll let you know when that happens :)

The bug with pasting links to sections that had spaces/special characters has been fixed! Let me know if you are still experiencing issues.

Yes, this solved the problem with pasting a link from a section. Yes, our section name did have spaces as well as dashes.
This has created a workflow problem though. We depended on the default Notebook names and default Section names to build out the OneNote Notebook consistent on a per team basis. Now there is a lot of work to create the Notebook, create a new Section, and copy/paste links to the correct tabs. Are there plans to return the previous defaults as a selection on the new tab popup? Or at least let create create new Sections in the new tab popup?
Thanks for the speedy fix on this!

No problem Jared, I'm glad that solved the problem for you!
Regarding your preference for the 'old' option, I totally understand. We are working on an update right now that will let you pick a section from a drop-down list and create a new section too. I hope that will improve your experience :)
