free Teams with Office 365?

New Contributor

We have a client who has Office 365 Exchange Online Plan 1. I also understand that Teams is now free. Can this client get MS Teams within their Office 365 environment? Or how does Teams work in relation to Office 365?

Hi Patrick,

users who already have O365 can claim a 1-year trial of Teams: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoftteams/iw-trial-teams

This is is a trial of the full version of Teams, which is different from the Teams (free) offer, which is a limited version for users who don't yet have O365. https://products.office.com/en-us/microsoft-teams/free

Ah, so the free Teams is only available for customers who do not already have Office 365?

Yes, to sign-up for Teams (free), you have to have a consumer style email (like outlook.com/gmail.com) or a business email (like contoso.com) that is not currently an O365 account.

Would also possibly recommend moving up to Business Essentials Plan 1 which only costs a little more than Exchange Online Plan 1 but also contains Teams, SharePoint, 1Tb of OneDrive Space and Online Versions of the Office Apps. https://products.office.com/en-gb/business/office-365-business-essentials Hope that helps Best, Chris
