Create private channel in a team

I asked the same question and got a response that there are no updates to share at this time. I hope there will be soon! :)
This seems like a big type of Ignite announcement, I would get hopes up for hearing something then. Just a hunch thou.
Would be nice if it comes available

Thanks for raising this. We get the priority of private channels are are working on it - no further updates at this point.

How about now? Any updates?????

I have so many uses for this feature. It would make Teams just about perfect. It would also help eliminate having to create so many individual Teams.

Example: I want to send faculty surveys to all my Program Directors. I have to create separate Teams for each Program. If I could have Private Channels, I could have one Team for Faculty Survey Distribution. Then, I could communicate to the Program Directors at the same time through the combined team, but could give them their Program surveys and private information through the Private Program channels.

Drill down a step further. The Program Director wants to give his faculty their surveys in Teams. They could then have a Program Team with separate channels for each faculty member. It would be easy to move files from their main channel to the individual faculty member's private channels.

Just one use of this feature that would be amazing!

Top! Can I read about ETA for this? This is a deal breaker for us.

No ETA yet! "Working on it" is all we know!

I wonder if the delay is on how they will handle the back end storage in SharePoint. Today a SP Site is created and a single document library is used for all files in that Teams area. Channels have separate folders for each channel in the single document library.

The MS Teams and SPO story is still in the early chapters, i guess.

On SharePoint you have the option of sharing specific documents and folders to specific people. You can give them edit and view only permissions. I don't understand why that capability can't be transferred to Teams. It seems like SharePoint has that functioning already.

Solution
I Agree with you.

I am sure they will have a solution for this in 2019.

I guess I was thinking that MS is really trying to step away from the complex security model in general. I would imagine they would never stop the ability to do unique permissions(especially in SP), but as we are seeing with the O365 groups permission model - super simple - 2 overall levels: Owner and Member. They are trying to simplify the overall security model.

I took me a while to get my head wrapped around this simplified security model, but I think I get it now. In fact, we are moving forward at my organization with Teams, while also leveraging SharePoint Online using the Modern Team sites, which you can set to use the O365 Group security model.

The biggest impact of this change is empowering the site owners to fully control permissions(WHOA, SCARY, I Know!!) - with 2 primary levels, you don't have to put the owners through grueling training on the complexity of folder and document level permissions - that we all know will last all of 30 days, then be a nightmare to update and maintain.
It will be interesting to see how this develops and gets implemented.

Any updates on this? Is it part of Q1 Product roadmap for MS teams?

No, I wouldn’t say Q1! They haven’t told any updates on this for awhile but they say they are working on something!
If I have to guess, not earlier than Q3

Q3 is unacceptable at this point :(

As, I've said, saying something about it is soon necessary, the feature itself -not

hahaha, every body have heard about this MAJOR HIGHEST VERY IMPORTANT feature for MS but we won't never see something...

This is in development and now also in testing on Microsoft internally!

Desperately waiting for this one...

I have heard no news about this so far in 2019....Lots of people wanting and waiting for this.
